What's the current expected furloughs?

Are the March bids going to hold?

I heard through second hand that the CPs had called a pilot - not in the top 15 - and told him that he wasn't going to be furloughed at all and should plan to be here, working in March.

I don't know how that would work, but if it's true, I like it.

Since I'm out on Monday, I'd be interested in knowing that source a little better than second hand......

From what I was told, they aren't going to go for the throat on this because it will look unfavorably to the NMB and I agree with that. However it has nothing to do with the companies inability to pay a higher rate. They can and have all but admitted to that.

I have to sit back and thank the powers that be everytime I read comments like this. You guys make our jobs SO much easier.

I'll bet you have guys on your union that are calculating how much pay per hour will put the company into bankruptcy. I love it when pilots with zero experience in accounting or corporate goverance try to play make-believe CEO or CFO. Usually, us executives have to go out of our way to scare the pilots into a paltry raise and giving up productivity. However, I see in this instance, ALK-ALPA is doing all the work. Thanks guys!

Just remember, times are tough right now. Any pilot pay raise puts the airline in immediate danger of bankruptcy and liquidation. Also, a quick reminder that Alaska is a "smaller" airline, befitting smaller pilot wages. Those high fallutin wages like UAL and DAL had are a thing of the past, and is what put both of those companies into bankruptcy. Sticking with a shamefull 3% COLA raise and conceding a couple of dozen work rules is the smart thing to do.

On another note: MEC struck a deal w/ the CO to cancel 18 furloughs. The pilots not being furloughed are going to remain in their current position regardless of seniority until the April bid comes out Mar 13th. Some pilots being forced out of base out of seniority.....Any comments Lorenzo? A lot of ticked off pilots here...I REALLY hope the TA is worth it!

As far as I can tell, we're asking for captains to get a raise slightly ahead of inflation. For F/Os we're asking for 9% initially, plus cola.

On the one hand, what we're asking for is embarrassing. On the other hand, we have two companies up our a$$ on the west coast that pay their captains less than half our pre-Kasher rate.

like flying with some koolaid drinking old farts who won't think twice about putting their young under the bus. I'm so tired of hearing these guys say, "This is it for me. I can't make what I'm making here elsewhere. You are young enough to get a job somewhere else and start over, but I can't just pick up and do that". Fortunately, they are the minority but they are out there. They've been bent over so many times that their a$$es are numb.

I think that's why they're not fighting for the bottom guys right now. They're too busy playing nice for the mediator to put up a fuss about the furloughees.
