NetJets Smoking Question

I am considering applying to NetJets and hear nothing but positives. I did see on the company website that client smoking is allowed. Has anyone experienced this and if so, how much does it bother you? Thanks

It irritates the hell out of me when it happens, but it's rare enough that it's not a big deal. Last time was a lady that chain-smoked for three hours, so I closed the curtain, turned off the cockpit recirc fan, and opened the air vent wide-open into my face. Took care of the issue, at least for my personal space.

We had to down the plane after we landed to get it shampooed and fumigated, though. (It isn't presentable to another owner if it smells like that.)

I wish they'd change the policy, but until/unless they do, you just deal with it as best you can. Sometimes I'll just use the mask, though that's not the most comfortable thing in the world.

I've been lucky and have had only one smoker onboard during my tenure here. The woman who smoked actually came up front and asked if we would mind if she had one cigarette. It's her plane so she was welcome to do that. Even though she only had one cigarette, you could definitely smell the odor after she left. We put in a call to have the plane professionally cleaned and it was, sort of.

Not many smoking pilots, but I've flown with a few. I've only had one passenger light up in over 2 years. I've never seen any drug use onboard.

It is their airplane. They can do whatever they want in the bounds of the law, including smoking.

If it bothers you THAT MUCH, this might not be the place for you. Having said that, I have had 3 smokers in 3.5 years here. It really isn't that bad.

There is nothing in the FOM about smoking on the ground. Common sense must prevail, however. Be a courteous smoker in uniform. You are a representitive of the company.

I have had 3 smokers this calendar year. One went to the toilet to smoke.

If you see drugs, notify the company asap. If you ask the owner (island returns) then supposedly that is all you can to do. You might have to convince customs and DEA that you knew nothing. This is one area that I thought the company could have spent more time on during indoc.

I've had them twice in just over two years on the line, so in my relatively brief time I agree with it being rare. It is rather irritating, but as was stated, really like having to hang out in a smoke-filled bar. Or for that matter, any pub or bar in much of Europe, though lately that is changing even there.

If worst comes to worst you could put on the mask. And below 10 the safety signs are on and they need to put it out in preparation for landing.

If they were chain smokers and there's another pax leg scheduled out of the destination, personally I'd send an AFIS message to the company that they really need to get another plane to recover the flight because nothing short of professional cleaning is going to expel the odor.

Our pilots aren't permitted to smoke or use any tobacco product while on board the aircraft. Which is good, because the smell of a cup full of used dip will get me puking every time. uke:

Back in the day when I was at a "Fractional flying lears", a couple owners "Toked up" while on board!


The crew reported it and management said they would deal with it and to "drive on".

The crew said excuse me? We are not putting our FAA tickets on line!

Oops, I guess your right! Both pilots were given 30 days off and it was reported to the FAA.

That is of course what I heard, you would have to get the straight scoop from those directly involved.

I also heard the crew immedietely went out and "scored a bag" and got "toasty" since they had the next 30 days off!!!!

(I of course made that last part up!)

That wouldn't happen here. We don't fly lears.

Seriously, I have seen the company support pilots in situations similar to this. Good judgement IS rewarded appropriately. The company won't sacrifice the brand over 1 Owner.
