Maybe the joint leadership is smart enough not to pin all their hopes on just one solution? I predict that tomorrow's announcement will reflect the time and effort both sides have spent working the issue.

There will be furloughs after enough folks do not accept the early retirement option. My prediction

Everyone has their own wants and needs, and has to make a choice based on what is best for themselves and their family.

That being said if I was with in a year or two or hell three of hanging it up, the numbers I heard would make me think LONG and HARD about going early. No question about it.

There is much more to it than just early retirements. A lot more. :)

From a spouse's perspective, you guys have missed so much couple and/or family time that an offer which made it possible to separate early (the term I prefer since not all of the senior pilots are actually seniors) would be very welcome, especially if the family could afford it.
