I have my medical coming up with NJA as a new hire, I was wondering what the blood exams entail. I just did a full set at my own physician a few weeks ago and was wondering how much more they go into it.
Thx

They start with the hair on top of your head and finish between your toes. The blood work was very extensive. When I had mine many moons ago they were not acceptting "no change" in response to past medical items - so you might want to bring some notes if you have many items from the past - surgery, hospitalization etc. Maybe someone who has had one recently can give you more updated info.

I asked the same question when the nurse was sticking me with the needle a few months ago in Columbus. If I understood correctly, the test is fairly comprehensive. HDL/LDL/trigl., all the STDs you can think of., test for certain kinds of cancer, etc.

Blood test in a physical is usually...

CBC, complete blood count....
This includes your
RBC-red blood count 4.5-5.9
WBC-white blood count 4.0-10.0
PLT-Platelets 150-450
HCT-Body's ability to carry oxygen 39-49
HGB-body's ability to carry oxygen 13-16.5

Blood plasma tests...
Glucose-blood sugar
Creatinine
AST-liver function stay off booze for a few days
ALT-liver function no booze, just for a few days

Aids test.

These will test for many blood disorders and some cancers. Plus diabetes.

Nothing to worry about. If they do find somthing it could save your life.

Why don't you wait till next month and you won't be required to take the physical?

Any way, no big deal and it's free. Enjoy!

Are they doing away with it?

Aren't PLT's supposed to be 150,000 - 450,000? At 150-400 you'd bleed out internally my bumping your knee on the coffee table.
