Do you make the owner-pilot join the Teamsters and pay union dues? Why not? Is that only required if he's flying a Gulfstream?

I don't get it. I'm hearing all these tantrums about non-union pilots flying Gulfstreams. So why would you allow someone to fly an NJA aircraft if they're not on your seniority list? It sounds like a double standard to me.

I have never had nor heard of anyone doing that at Flex. Owners are not allowed to fly the planes. Unless they are in the sim with an instructor pilot. Flex does that with our owners, but not in the actual plane. Not to my knowledge anyway.

Yeah, Vixen, he flew the Lear 60 there for about 2 years. Been at NJA about 6 years now. He had a dispute with one of the crew flying with him, not going into details, but it was about attempting a landing at a mountain airport in bad weather. This guy is very conservative and didnt like the manuevers the instructor pilot was doing. He complained to management, and was told he was released from his contract, Flex does not allow owners to fly anymore, and he came to NJA. This being over 6 years ago, and the nature of how it ended, Im sure you have never heard about it.

By the way, I have friends at Flex and they are all good guys, just telling the story as I heard it. No flame.

No flame received. I just have never heard of that. I have been here since before he departed. It wasnt to my knowledge which is very limited. The few brain cells I have are for eating and breathing. Happy landings 750!!!

I just explained to you... They are paying ALL THE UNION DUES. Without the benefit of even having a seniority number.

If it will make you happy I'll pencil all their names on the Seniority list.... and give them a Letter instead of a number O for Owner.

First flights since 91k took effect are this Friday and Sunday. I'll let you know. Got a 7 a.m. departure Friday morning and since it is a peak day (and now 91k) sure hope they do not move me 3 hours earlier! But I have never been moved on an early morning flight. Late in the day is where I hear the trouble is.

Now I understand what my dentist was talking about! When he learned that my husband is a pilot for NJ, he told me that he knew some pilots that were also owners and that they got to fly the planes wherever they wanted to go. I was confused because I knew that none of the NJ pilots could afford a share of the plane. Pilots that are also owners....??? NO. Owners that are also pilots! Big difference! My son has another appointment soon; so I'll be able to have a more enlightened conversation with the dentist... Thanks guys! I learn a lot here...

So since the owner is up there flying with the PIC, does the SIC get to sit in the back and read the usa today, stick M&M's in the cracks of the tables, and use the lave 5 mins before landing (#2)?

Actually NJW there are only a very select few that actually have the time and qualifications to be typed and fly our planes. I doubt that your dentist knows a few of them. Probably that they just get to fly in the back of the plane.

And there are some pilots that can afford to be owners.
