Well, wasn't that the intent of this thread before it got hijacked by a bunch of ********************tards? To find out more about VX? Ask about training pay, 401k, health insurance, retirement etc...

This thread is 11 pages long, and only 1 answer to the original question.

Training pay - okay
401k- small match, 5% (?)
Health insurance- lousy
Disability- state of cal (shrt), long (not very)
Retirement- Awesome, amazing, you won't believe it!!

Good luck!!

As ridiculous as that post was...Its still the second most informative post on this thread.

Speaking of Alaska, just met a VA Captain who has been at VA for 4 years, and left Alaska to come here because (according to him) he was fed up with them. He's a lot happier at VA after 4 years here. I think that speaks volumes.

I know the guy you're talking about. He was an F/O just off probation and didn't want to stick it out for his upgrade. He was going back to SKW where he was a check airman when VX called him.

Looks like he got his quick upgrade.

What? He considered leaving Alaska as a FO to go back to Skywest? He can't be checkairmen once he's resigned, he'd be at the bottom of the list like any other newhire FO at Skywest.

At a non-Union shop he could be anything management said he could be.

If you think that, it's no wonder you don't grasp the importance of a union.

You talking about Skywest?

Yeah, seniority means absolutely nothing at Skywest.
They'll put a guy junior to you in the base/position you can hold all day long.

Ask any Brasilia driver who's base has been closed.

Why would they care?
They don't have to retrain a junior jet guy so you go from SAN to FAT and he gets awarded LAX.

Their PBS essentially puts every pilot on reserve. They 'adjust' your trips at will.

They get a company toady as a check airman for life? Who's gonna stop them?

Ok snapshot, thanks for that info. I wasn't aware of this going on at Skywest. Every Skywest story I ever heard was full of roses and butterflies but I guess even they have their issues.
