Any info on good neighborhoods in the Denver area to live. Looking more for good places for families with younger children--Also, within 2 hours of DIA preferrably.

Thanks

Lots of new communities sprouting up between Denver and Colorado Springs. Out in the plains might be an easier road trip in to DEN though. Less expensive than the Boulder area.

Evergreen, Wheatridge, Arvada, Westminster, Golden and the peoples republic of Boulder (born and raised there, probably explains a lot:) Are good places, the costs have gotten out of hand. Still it’s a good place to raise a family.

What kind of price range are you looking at? I have a good friend out there that is in the Mortgage Business, and has a pilot that works for him doing some loans. I'd be more than happy yo put you in touch with him. I use to live in Castle Rock when I flew out of Centennial. Good schools, affordable (well for Denver). Or Parker, same deal. If you would prefer to live in the plains, and want to save some cash there is Elizabeth. If you have kids I would try to stay away from Downtown. Denver has a beautiful downtown, but the downtown schools have the same problems that every down town has. Drop a line here or PM me.

If you need a money guy - Matt Hanson, Sierra Funding 303-300-8601. [email protected]

I have used them both and found them to be extremely good! They can give you the skinny on just about everything.

Alot of pilots live out in the south and southeast of DIA in parker, castle rock, and highlands ranch. For public schools, douglas county schools are good, they pay the highest so they get their pick of teachers.

Check out the north end of town. Westminster and Broomfield. They are expanding like crazy to the north. Nice new neighborhoods and out of the way of city traffic. E-470 (Tollway) is close by. Doesn't take but maybe 15 mins to get to DIA from I-25 using the tollway.

Stay away from Thornton. The schools aren't as great there.
you can pm me if you would like more info. Good luck.

Welcome to the Mile High City!

If your goal is to live within a two hour drive of KDEN than you have your pick of just about any place in the greater Metro Denver area.

Growth abounds in Denver and so do high housing prices. A cursory check of http://www.zillow.com shows that most family homes are easily 250K+. Many entirely new neighborhoods are springing up each day it seems.

I am partial to the Arvada/Westminster area because I grew up there. Golden is very nice, too. Watch out for the traffic south of Denver proper in cities such as Englewood, Littleton, Centennial, and Parker. Beware of T-Rex (Denverites get it). The commute from the north side of town to the airport is likely easier than the commute from the south side of town.

To stay within a two hour drive you could go as far north as Longmont or as far south as Colorado Springs; both of those may be a stretch, especially with poor road conditions.

Some new neighborhoods might worth a look including Stapleton (at the site of the old airport) or Reunion (very close to the airport). Many cities on the east and northeast sides of town, though close to the airport are not the pick of the litter. I am not a fan of Commerce City, Aurora, or Brighton.

Wherever you choose to nest we welcome you... as long as you are not from Texas or California (again, Denverites get it). Seriously -- welcome to town. There are plenty of CFIs, Lakers (GLA), and F9 drivers on this board that call Denver home.

Oh, and MTV's The Real World is being filmed here this year. Yeah.

I second - Kentwood Realty, 303-331-1400, thoese guys are really good. Their are alot of pilots that live in Reunion (about 15 min to the employee lot), i think the schools are Brighton

I'll help him re-enforce the point. As long as you are not from Texas or California, you will be welcome. Denverites get it.

I'm from both Texas AND California now living near the People's Republic. I get it AND I think it's stupid.

Do you fall into one of the two groups;

1. The Texan that comes up to CO and thinks they can hunt on private property without asking? The Texan that comes to CO to ski and thinks they own the ski resort?

2. The Californian that comes to CO and complains about how everything is CA is sooo much better? The sad part being that you moved out of CA because it's overcrowded and getting worse and you can get way more house for your money without the traffic hassels in CO. You start off bitching with "I'm from California, and in California........"

If one of these two describes you, you are stupid. If you do not fall into one of these two groups, then be happy your not one of those idiots.

Alot of people in Washington state have the same opionion by the way.

thing that bugged me most was how much everyone who claimed to be "native" CO professed that they dislike all texans and californians. enjoy your overcrowded, overpriced burg.

Good point. However, I am a native, second generation.

I am a native boulder-rite, and I moved to Texas. The horror, I even eat meat and smoke cigars. O no. Cats and dogs living together, when will it ever stop.

The best thing about living in Colorado is, using a restroom after a native has used it. There is that wonderful scent of columbines that they leave behind:rolleyes: .

My husband and I moved here a year ago from Seattle and found ourselves in Highlands Ranch. Having 3 small children, I have never seen a place more dedicated to children than here. We have opted to stay here even though his airline lost the base here. He would rather commute than move the children from here. You should look here and take a good look at the 4 huge community centers and all they have to offer for kids. The only other place I would like to live is Boulder...bet the location we would want to live is too much $$$. Good Luck...and don't rule out HR. I have found it easy, as a mother not knowing anyone who is alone often, to make friends...and genuine friends.

Pilots-wife.

BTW...it is only 45 minutes to the airport. Either the toll road...no traffic or highway.

I just moved out of Denver, and miss it already....

If you have a wife and kids try to find a place in Littleton. It's about 20 mins from Downtown, and 45 from the airport. My (ex) gf used to live there, I used to live right downtown for a while. I love Denver, great city. Or maybe find a place down town (bring some cash with you though!)

view from my old place : http://myspace-994.vo.llnwd.net/00380/49/92/380202994_l.jpg

dont go to much north or east (DIA) from Denver, unless your Spanish is good....
Some areas in Aurora are nice, but some places are... nasty atleast.

have fun.

I'll second my Denver homies. I'll help them re-enforce the point. As long as you are not from Texas or California, you will be welcome. Denverites get it. ;)

I grew up in Highlands Ranch/south Denver area. Went to HR high school and moved to FL after graduation. That was a decade ago and out of all the cities I have lived since then, I've yet to find one that remotely compares to HR in terms of quality and community involvement. I have a 18 month old son and I am dreading the day I have to put him into the FL public school system.

Need to find a reason to move back.
