This letter was passed on to me. As far as I can tell, these MESA pilots are on there own for getting out to Hawaii. Does this mean they will be jumpseating? Is that legal?

Aloha go! Crewmembers:
As you know we are rapidly approaching the startup of go! We are very much excited about the opportunity to fly under our own name in Hawaii. We also want to do things differently in the Flight Operations side. This e-mail will detail some of that.
Our crew domiciles will be outstation based which will increase the quality of life for our crew members. Our intention is to let the domiciles write their own schedules. For those of you who remember the “good-ole’ Beech days” of writing schedules and being home every night, this is what we are hoping for. We really want our pilots to be happy in paradise and we hope these are some of the ways we can help. We are designing go! for maximum flexibility and QOL.
The first few bids will be a morning/night shift that is published on the Pilot’s Lounge. We will publish lines until go! phases in all flights; at that time we will be transitioning to a “write your own schedule” system. More details will be available in the very near future.
The HNL, LIH, and OGG Domiciles will be released from all line flying on May 30th, 2006. This will give you ample time to prepare yourselves and get situated in your new Hawaiian domiciles and get ready for work.
We have attached some move information to this e-mail for those of you who are planning to move your household and/or cars to Hawaii. Also some useful web sites are http://www.shipmyvehicle.com/default.aspx & http://www.hawaii.com/relocation/moving/index.php also, on the employee section of the www.mesa-air.com web site under the crews tab, you will find additional information on Hawaii. Remember per our CBA your award was a voluntary bid and you are responsible for your own move. If there is any more information we can provide, please e-mail us in the Chief Pilots Office.
As you know this operation will be operated differently than what you are used to. For this reason you are required to be in HNL on June 6th, for go! orientation and training on June 7th. This orientation will be conducted by Jonathan Ornstein and your respective training departments. We will have fun and cover various aspects of the operation how we will operate our aircraft and provide our customers with the best experience possible in Hawaii. We will be handing out Jeppessen Charts and other required information at this event.
You will be wearing the same blue slacks, blue tie, black shoes, black belt, white shirt and epaulets. You will be issued a pair of go! wings and expected to wear them at all times while in uniform.
As you know we have worked for many months on go! and we are very proud to be able to offer lower fares in Hawaii, as well as provide a good product for them at a great price. We also know the whole industry is watching us, and it will be your job to show them we can do this right. We can’t stress enough the importance of good customer service, working hard, and along with that having fun and helping each other out. This will be the key to our success and future opportunities in Hawaii.
The people of Hawaii are very friendly and very excited that go! is there. It seems like everyone on the islands already know who we are. Let’s go there and show them that we can do a great job, and as we grow, we can provide an even better service for them.
Remember, you have the support of your Chief Pilot’s and everyone else in corporate. If you have any questions or need any more information, please feel free to contact the Chief Pilot Office

That is the sickest thing I've ever read- along with Whorenstein's quotes from ATW. How in the heck will they pull that off?

How on Earth are the FOs (or CPTs for that matter) going to be able to live in Hawaii on Slave wages?? Hope the food stamp system is good over there

Relax. Sky is not repeat NOT falling.

As this was a voluntary displacement for those going to Hawaii, the company is not responsible for either their move or their travel. They're getting released from duty about a week before they have to actually show up for their unofficial "move days".

Yes, the j/s use is legal, and violates no ALPA held tenets. Guys use the j/s all the time to get home. Hawaii for these people is now home. Duh. But until we get CASS, it's probably not worth the bother.

Most of the f/a's and pilots going to "Go" can use their Mesa bennies to either fly in back for free (USAirways) or pretty darn cheap as a non-rev ($50 bucks on Hawaiian, only $25 bucks on ATA); this isn't going to pose much of a problem.

As to the cost of living . . . Uh, we're all adults here, right? These people are responsible for their own choices for where they want to live and work . . . if they think they can make it living on peanuts, that's their business. Most of the ones I've spoken to have either lived in Hawaii before or have friends/family there that will help them out.

Personally, I think it makes no sense economically (unless you have means other than your airline job) for Aloha, Hawaiian, or Mesa pilots to live there. But you only live once, and there's more to life than a healthy bank account. (so I'm told, but don't believe).

Are you sure about that? How much money do you have that you would feel comfortable waging on this one?
