Thank you father, I mean Dad. Look beyond your rose colored glasses you wear. Remember those 6-9 year FOs you worked with at XJ? Well, most of them are FINALLY captains. You know what that means? That means we're all starting to build our PIC time to be able to advance our careers.

If you were a CA when you left XJ, good for you. You had the good fortune of riding the good times wave at XJ and had the ability to move on. Not all of us were as fortunate. That being said, just because we're at XJ at this time, does't mean we're all planning on making XJ a career. It means it's a good place to remain until we're able to move on. For many giving up 6-9 years of FO seniority only to make a lateral move to another regional was rediculous. Again, not all of us were as fortunate to be able to move on to Southwest, Fedex or Delta.
Oh, and by the way... not everyone WANTS to work for NetJets.

Thanks again for all your advice... We've all been to h.ell and back with XJ. We get it. You can look back and see how awful it was. Throw us a bone and give those of us, your former fellow XJers the respect we deserve for making the decisions that best meet OUR needs in life. Not yours. I hope the hatred you have is for our mgmt and not us. If so, don't be hatin'!

FO
Did you even bother to read what I wrote?

I have nothing but respect for the pilots. I still have friends there that are trying to move on during this next wave. If anything I am trying to wale up those that are too afraid to look beyond XJ. I was one of them. I finally had enough and now that I am out, I wished I did it five years ago. NJ is hiring a lot of XJ guys not just captains but FOs to. For me it looks like it will be my final stop in my career. I know it is not for all. I interviewed at four other airlines about the same time. I was turned down by two and hired at two others. I had the fortune to choose between three jobs. Total luck, but it can be done.

Even if you think you can't get those apps out. Take the time to do it. PM me if you want to know about NJ I will give you all I can from my limited experience.

Good Luck.

Well, looks like they don't want me quite yet. I got an automated email that said that others' qualification may best suit their needs at this time.

I just got the phone call but I was in the kitchen and didn't hear the phone...lol I called back and left a message. Is this captain slot for the 340 only?? Anyone know?

I thought that there were some people already interviewing for them... Also, if you were hired for an F/O position, wouldn't you just bid Captain right away and hold it if you have the time? BTW, my status says "Approved for Review" and I put in for the Captain position.

Yes. Is doesn't really matter if you're hired on as an FO or a Captain. If you meet the time requirements (ATP mins) and bid for the CA spot, and have the seniority (which would be zero, if they're putting street captains into that particular domicile, don't know if it's DTW or MEM or both..) you will be awarded the upgrade. The only problem is in streamlining training for these guys. I don't know what the companies plan is to do this.

Also, you could potentially be bypassed for a few months, but you'll still get captain pay starting 8 weeks after the class start date for the bid you were bypassed on.

That's what I thought, thanks. I put my stuff in for the Captain position, but I wonder if I should put my stuff in for the F/O spot to speed things up? Also, what do you guys think about that job fair in DFW? Would it help things?

I believe it is for the Saab only. They have a long way to go down the seniority list before they have street captains in either of the RJs

If it changed to Approved for Review you will be getting a call from HR. I got my call today, interview oct 22nd. I am hearing that the union is telling new F/O's to not do the immediate upgrade until they have a yr with the company. You will get a call CM.

From the last XJ MEC update......

Item 2: Upgrade Advisory for Pilots Still on Probation

A pilot is on probation during their first 365 days of active service. During this probationary time period, “…the Company may discharge the pilot at its sole discretion with no resort to the grievance procedure or System Board of Adjustment.”

A first year pilot who bids to upgrade to a captain position is more vulnerable to discharge for proficiency reasons than any other pilot, and is not due the same contractual protections. If you are on probation, please very carefully consider your own skill level, judgment, and experience before you bid for the upgrade. Factors such as familiarity with aircraft systems, the weather patterns we fly in, the airports we serve, your practical experience with our FOM, as well as raw flying ability should be considered when making this decision. We encourage you to consult with the Captains you are flying with and ask for their honest feedback. Many talented pilots are simply not ready for an upgrade in their first year, and the vast majority of airline Captains at all airlines have had well over one year of service before they became Captains. No one wants a failure on their training record, and, even worse, no one wants to be without any job at all. If a probationary pilot struggles in training, Mesaba MAY elect to terminate that pilot – they are not obligated to return a probationary pilot to his previously held position.

We are not trying to absolutely discourage all first year pilots from upgrading. Some pilots will do just fine. We are trying to say that you should think long and hard about the risk you incur in attempting to upgrade in the first year, and to be sure that it is in your own best interest to make that attempt.

Item 3: Flow Through Update

As a reminder to all pilots, the NWA MEC has finalized a Letter of Agreement that provides for Mesaba pilots to flow through to NWA. The final details are still being worked out, but if there is no agreement by November 1, there will be an arbitration decision by December 1 that will resolve all of the outstanding issues.

The Letter of Agreement between NWA and the NWA MEC allows for 3 Mesaba pilots to go to NWA each month, starting in January 2008, and 9 pilots each month commencing in October 2008 (provided NWA is actively hiring pilots). In light of the potentially very short period of time between finalizing and actually starting the Flow Through, our more senior pilots may be asked to determine whether they wish to flow in relatively short order. A Mesaba pilot will have ONE opportunity to accept the offer to flow.

January is fast approaching. If you are on the top part (1-150) of the Mesaba Seniority List, PLEASE BE READY TO MAKE THIS DECISION. We will, of course, continue to update you with more details as they become available.
