It wasn't ATP minimums but the upgrade did slide all the way to the bottom of the list in the G concorse days. I remember Joe having a talk with the the new hire about his choice to take AVRO ca and reminded him that he was still on probation.

I think mostly, what many are poking fun at here, is the high and mighty attitude of some new hires because of the ac they were on.

Which brings up a memory of the same.

I was an fo on the saab. The (senior)ca and I went to get lunch in the main concorse at DTW. We ran into some of his friends which were also very senior. A few Dash ca's and one Avro crew. They started talking about the trips they were on and getting very little time to eat. The avro guy smiled and said his first class meal they just had was tasty. The new hire avro fo spouted off about how sick and tired he was at eating the chicken and how the airline should put more choices on the ac! You can imagine that went over like a fart in church. The Dash Ca's proceeded to give him a verbal lashing until the avro ca spoke up and told them to give the fo a break because he just doesn't understand.

Some just don't understand.

Good post brotha.

Just because one can hold the upgrade at ATP mins or Company mins (3500TT) it Doesn't mean they can be a captain.

You bet they can!

Just look around and you'd see many who are. Some of them have been captains for years!

Remember...it's not the hardest job in the world. You wanna know what's hard to study and be competent at: go to Medical school.

In this profession, even for the major airlines, a college degree in your profession is not required. Get it?

Yeah OK, I'll give you a 50/50 on that one.

yea but one big mistake by the doctor and 1 patient dies. One big mistake by me and I am 1 of up to 80 dead.

You can't even compare the two.

I agree. B/c mistakes are made in the cockpit every single day. Does anyone get hurt? Not really. But if a Doc makes a "simple" mistake, then the patient is fu***.
In order for us to make a mistake that kills everyone on board, then it has to be a pretty BIIIIIG incompetent mistake.

Unfortunately a common misconception, especially of the Ipod generation. Usually it's a series of small mistakes that go uncaught--you know, the swiss cheese model. Remember Comair? Or countless other thousands of accidents over the years. The Pinnacle accident that you probably had in mind is more of an aberration. ANYBODY can have an accident.

Just don't forget to pay attention to as many details as possible, everybody.

Right, but we aren't talking about a merit-based system. It's seniority based. If you have enough time and enough seniority, then you get the chance to go to upgrade training. Then it is up to you to pass.

That's what I mean bro. Just b/c your seniority can hold it and you have the mins it doesn't mean you will pass. At least at Mesaba I have seen that Line Check airmen are outstanding. They don't just look at your flying, but at what of person you are. If you airman ship sucks and attitude sucks, then it doesn't matter how good you can do a steep turn. At least that's what I've experienced, and seen at Mesaba.

Well that's pretty much everywhere, at least it should be. Just like how there are some FOs that should never have passed, there are some CAs that make you think how the hell did this guy make it.

Right on! That's what I meant. For instance, you just can't get to be a Heart Surgeon or a Plastic/Orthopaedic Surgeon because you're the most senior and the 'opening' is posted.

In aviation, that's the curse. If you're senior, you get a shot. My upgrading captain mucked up his whole check ride, but since he's been there for over 20 years, the examiner, who also is a company pilot, and knows him, let so many things slide. What a joke!

I guess then you 'have not' seen much then at Mesaba!

i applied there, hope to hear something soon

i heard from a reliable source they are getting 36 more crj's and some Q 400's

The Rumors have been running rampant at XJ lately. I will believe it when I see it. Don't believe everything you hear around the crew rooms

That is very true, Limey. Don't believe the one about new planes until you see them roll on the property. However, after being here at XJ for 9 years I am just glad that all of what I am hearing are "happy" rumors instead of the ones that contain anything concerning furloughs, bankruptcies, or the company shutting down. We will get plenty of those the next time we are in contract negotiations. Enjoy the good times while they are here, no matter how the rumors end up...

Just my .02 worth.

No one is perfect. But at least the ones I know, and have worked with have been great and very professional.....Oh yeah, and kiss my left nut EMA!

You have crewmembers that have taken "over 20 years" to upgrade???

The only reliable rumor is that I will be called once again, and assigned another day of ready reserve tomorrow.... What a crock!

IF only I could predict the keno numbers as well as this garbage.....

Ok Siggi Pipi, I will bite. Did you not realize when you took the left seat of the 900 that you were a very junior person going to a very senior airplane? I think that you did. And I can probably assume that you knew you would be on reserve at the bottom of the list. You still get paid way more than you would if you were a Saab Captain for your longevity doing considerably less work. How much have you actually flown on reserve, anyway? I know that ready reserve is pretty bad but it kinda goes with the territory for where you are right now. If it is REALLY that bad you could just go back to the Saab, you know. I am sure you could hold a nice schedule on that right now.

Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeya.

Tell you what; flying is my 'part-time' job. My 'real' job is in Mathematics where I work as a consultant with govt. agencies and colleges (BTW, there are two of us at Mesaba with same credentials). We use the web extensively for our jobs and research and post on many 'mathematic' (Pure-Mathematics for you that is - most likely your High School math teacher WON'T be able to explain what pure mathematics is). The difference between the education, intelligence, knowledge, and professionalism of pilots like you and the ones in my profession as a mathematician is that you'd NEVER read rude comments like yours on our web boards even when we disagree with each other.

Obviously when you are unable to engage in an intelligent debate, you’d resort to what bullies do in middle school: make rude and insulting comments and try to over power physically. You sure are a text book example of someone with physical and personal insecurity.

Don't bother trying to use reason and logic during a flightinfo debate. Just not worth it. Believe me, I've tried before.

This sounds like a rude post-calling someone names is exactly what you are saying is wrong but yet you do call this person physically and mentally insecure? This confuses me-maybe with your superior intellect, and your other friend with superior intellect at mesaba can school me in the MSP crew room one day-I will be there alot on ready reserve! Look for my dumb army stickers on my flight case-by the way, I am smiling when I am typing this-its entertaining I like it when someone gets pulled down a notch or two-those who think they are so smart and call being a pilot a part time gig and stand high and mighty above us lowly dumba$$es and the other kind, the ones who cannot find a hat large enough for their head because its swelled so much because they think they are gods gift to humanity because they are a airline pilot

keep it real people. fly safe and get a long

OH, by the way the world is full of bullys, live with it. The world is also full of intellectuals, live with that too-who wins the fight? I suppose who wins depends on the arena. You figure that one out-the crew room? the court room, the secret government mathmatics lab (does that exsist???), the parking lot or the battlefield. Just my two cents.

Yawn....

Has anyone found some good BBQ on a trip lately? I haven't seen any posts on this actual worthwhile topic in the last year or so.
