did some research and the results are shocking, to say the least... a/c type with highest payscale is listed
airline name // a/c type// 1st year F/O pay//5th year F/O pay

PSA/US AIRWAYS EXPRESS // DORNIER328//16416//23328
COMAIR//CRJ100//19800//34200
MESA//CRJ100//18240//30096
ACA//JETSTREAM41//19800//24300
AIR WISCONSIN//BA146//22500//43200
ASA//CRJ100//17100//36000
CHATAUGA//ERJ135//18900//31500
PINNACLE/NW AIRLINK//CRJ200//18000//30600
SHUTTLE AMERICA//SAAB340//19800//23400
SKYWEST//CRJ200//17100//34200
COMMUTAIR//B190//17712//21648
US AIRWAYS/ ALLEGHENY//DASH8//21600//27900
US AIRWAYS EXPRESS/COLGAN AIR//B190D/16200//20700
CHICAGA EXPRESS//SAAB340//17100//23400

highest paying is Air Wisconsin, by a fair margin, also looks llike biggest aircraft. Stingiest b@stards are US Airways Express and Colgan air.

Lowest salary is less than what I'm getting now at a charter company in Africa. Sad to say thought, it is on par with what the regional guys over here seem to be getting.
One regional apparently pays new F/O in the order of R5000 per month, that equates to about 8571 USD , no not per month ....PER YEAR. So you guys arent the only ones having to grap your ankles

MESA//CRJ100//18240//30096

16200, 17100, 16416 >>- MESA= 18240 (first year) and you are in a jet.

"Prop" or RJ ( with more pay)? no brainer and easy choice .

So, 7 airlines have starting pay lower than Mesa, and 6 are higher (assuming these payscales are right).

So, 2 questions:

1. Are they right?

2. If they are, Mesa seems to be middle of the pack (industry average, I dare say). Why all the talk of Mesa being the bottom of the industry (interms of pay. Hating their managment seems justified)?

That was my main point when I replied in response to that post. Enough Said. Exactly, b u t I am sure they would then attempt to attack the "work rules" and conditions, blah, blah, blah,.. Too comical when they attack a group when they do not even know what they are talking about. Fortunately the majority of people within the industry look at Mesa folk no differently than any other group.

Mesa pay

Of course it is disgraceful. First-year pay at most commuters (regionals) is beyond disgraceful and not commensurate at all with the responsibility of being an airline pilot.

One should view it pragmatically. No one says you have to stay at Mesa forever (though I might have had I been hired because of where I'm from and where I live). Once you build the time and get the magic 1000 hours of turbine PIC, you have many options. E.g., we had the wife of a former Mesa pilot post some time back. She talked about how her husband went through MAPD, got hired, endured Mesa, and got hired at Alaska Airlines, which was his goal.
