419 KTS in the Mu-2 at FL270 from FXE-CDW had 110kts on the tail over North Carolina

saw 791 kts over the deserts of Utah this past summer in the back of an F-16

I was sitting around the FBO Monday waiting for pax when I picked up Robb Report or some other "stuff you cant afford" type magazine. There was an article by the SR-71 pilot who wrote "Sled Driver".

He tells a story about a training mission over California where they hear a guy in a Cessna ask ATC for a groundspeed. They tell him 92 or something like that. Then a guy in a Bonanza (or similar) asks the same, they tell him 160. Next a cocky sounding guy in an F-18 asks. ATC tell him 615 knots. These two Blackbird drivers decide this guy is being an arrogant a$$ and decide to nip it in the bud. Naturally, they ask for their groundspeed, and the controller tells them, without missing a beat, 1,905 knots! (I cant remember the exact #, but it was in that region.)

As for myself...428kts in a DHC-8 TLH-CLT in the low 20s.
 
I was flying in the area when I heard Grand Canaris Control asking a TU-154 for Mach number. It was given .95 and for ground speed 735 kts.

Climbing out of Japan the other day we saw 210kts. Amazing it was very smooth, we were on our way to Guam.

457kts @ 23.0 between LIT and CVG in SA227. For once I was in the right place at the right time. The controllers where said that was the best they had ever seen for a Metro.
 
We were always limited by the external fuel tanks to 550 until they were empty, but when we got the Hi-Speed Centerline which was advertised by the squadron to be good to aircraft limits (750 KCAS) -I got one up to 735 KCAS at 13,000 doing about 1.3 mach. I didn't have a G/S indicator to look at.

Later I actually looked at the book and found the actual limiting airspeed on the thing was 660 KCAS. It's a good thing the nose cone didn't collapse or the mounts didn't give way.

P.S. The Functional Check Flight guys would take a jet with major repair work out and do a full check. One of the things they would do would be to get the aircraft up to 1.8 mach or so and get the ramp doors on the engine inlets to cycle out. Of course, they did this in a clean configuration.
 
I've been in the back of a couple of Concordes doing Mach 2.00 at 58,500' while sipping expensive Champagne. :D:D

Time of my life and I will never forget it. I got some video of the cockpit and crew while in cruise after dinner on my first flight. This was pre 9/11 and they invited us up there to chat for a few minutes.

I will never go faster in my life. Guaranteed. Sad to see it retired.:(

My record was about 1000. This was in a T-38 at 1.3+, in the mid 30s, somewhere west of Vance AFB, Enid, OK.

My dad got over 250 Kts. in his Cherokee on several occasions.

PS-He's having to sell it know, due to health problems. It's a 1968 235. He's owned it since 1976, and has flown it over 3000 hours. He's only flown one year with it under 100 hours. The market value is about $55K-$60K, I understand. It has an AU Orange/Blue color scheme.

About 1550, but I cheated. RF-4C over South Korea at 30,000 Mach 2.2 on a functional check flight. Had to do it into the wind to be able to complete the 3 minute run and stay in the confines of South Korean airspace from one side to the other.
 
401 kts in Beech King Air 350

MEM to Fairfield NJ in the winter last year

230 kts SVH to RDU at 7500 ft with power pulled back to 55% to stay below Va in a old 310. glass smooth at 7500 but so rough below that I looked at the airframe for damage after flight. (none found)
 
Well my fastest is 280kts G/S in a C-340 from MDH to MDW. We made it in 1 hour, 20min!

My slowest was in a C-172RG. Not exactly sure, but my guess would be around -5kts to -10kts G/S. All I know is that we were moving the wrong way (during slow flight, of course). :o
