I'm pretty sure DEET is dangerous and not allowed in the US (I could be wrong). Nevertheless, there are quite a number of countries that require some sort of bug killer to be sprayed before takeoff or upon arrival

Just about every bug repellent that's worth a crap contains DEET. It's legal in the US and on the shelves of every grocery store.
The military currently makes us world travelers get the full Hep series, yellow fever, small pox and a bunch more. The Anthrax shot is back too. Of all the shots and travel gear I've been given, the one thing that has saved my a$$ (on more than one occasion) is a package of Imodium tablets. I don't leave the US without 'em!

I would recommend that you go to a clinic that knows wtf they are doing. I managed to get them to do typhoid and Hep A and B. They balked about hep B-"we only give that to medical professionals" until I told them I was on a beat up freighter with all kinds of pieces of sharp metal sticking out everywhere to get cut on.
Next time I will do some better research...
True, however what's really funny (or sad) is that about 80% of the blood used in our hospitals is imported from other countries (probably the same ones you just described) as Americans simply don't donate enough blood. I know they always do a post donation test for hepatitis, etc but still - it's a shame more won’t donate...Not only that, but you need to worry about the blood supply in these places. If you get badly injured in a car wreck on the way to the airport, you're subject to getting blood that might be contaminated with hepatitis.
