Well if DAL is out y'all can have my interview slot. Maybe that's why I didn't get an invite yet (I indicated DAL and "will not relocate" on my app).

Good luck all

BTW, PBI is Palm Beach, FL and CMH is Columbus

The originator of the Domicile System has since abandoned his (brain) child when he quietly left after having accomplished his mission of dragging out the contract battle as long as he could. Here are the options--laid out by my husband. Take the job now if you can manage to make the assigned city work out. You will be higher on the seniority list than those that may flood in after the DS is scrapped or reworked, assuming that happens. Should you decide to wait until things change enough for you to take the job, realize that others who held back like you did will be just as quick to apply at that time, increasing the competition. The following comments are my own opinion.

It's regrettable, but not at all surprising, that DAL has been pulled from the list. Given the cost of living at the other domiciles the ones most affordable are going to be filled first, especially on the low FO wages being offered. If they were wise they'd be opening more domiciles instead of closing the few they started with. That's an option the company has that's built into the CBA. I'm sure that interested pilots could come up with at least half a dozen suggestions for new domiciles. Why not call the company and give them your suggestion by way of a question---Will you be offering (name your logical choice) as a domicile in the near future? The laws of economics show that companies often respond to consumer demands. If you're not able to make one of the offered cities work then you have nothing to lose by asking, right?

None of us are privy to the level of commitment they have to Boisture's brainchild . What if it was weak enough that signs of it becoming a hiring obstacle caused them to abandon the idea completely or forced them to make it more attractive to applicants? Again, my idea of consumer activism applies only to those of you who were going to withdraw your application anyway.

When I started this process the word on the street was for 06 you would get to pick any of the domiciles. Now I sit waiting for the invite and DAL is not on the table. I want to work at NJA, but I can't move the family. What to do?

You are not required to live at the domicile city, just to show up there to start your tour. If you can manage to commute, then taking the job is still an option. As you pointed out, things changed quicker than we all expected. My husband says that can happen again. Things could have changed again by the time you interview. It's worth a gamble. There is no longer a training contract so you can always leave if the commute becomes unbearable and/or the wait too long to get home basing. Good luck what ever you decide to do.

Congratulations on the interview Archie. How long between the wait mail and the interview e-mail. Thanks!

I received the "wait" email on Feb 2nd, and got the interview invite on March 14th.....about a 6 week wait.

Congrats Arch - Good luck to you. Let us know if anything has changed from the gouge. Don't know what I'd do if LAX isn't offered.

I'm with you Baja. Long distance commuting will be a deal killer for me, so it's either LAX or I'll have to turn down the job offer, if I am so lucky.

I believe that the more NJA restricts its domiciles, the harder it will be for them to find qualified applicants. Moving to a job for 46K a year is just not a player for many folks out there. I'm personally hoping that NJA management can see the error of their ways and starts to offer home basing again. Well, I can hope, can't I?

Yes, Archie, you can hope and with good reason. As astute NJ pilots have pointed out, the company has had other brainstorms in the past that have long since faded from view. You are certainly not alone in your hopes that the same thing happens to the domicile experiment. You, and Baja, have even more reason to be hopeful about getting LAX. With its high cost of living, it isn't as much in demand as DAL was. Good luck to both of you.

My friend sent his app in about 2 weeks ago and just got the turn down email the other day. We're guessing it's because he hasn't flown in over a year. But he has over 600 hours PIC doing International Cargo in DC-10's, was a pilot at ValueJet and US Airways then flew CRJ200's at PSA. He lives 2 hours from CMH so we're hoping they'll reconsider if the pool starts to dry up.

Thanks for your input, I really do appriciate it. The reason Net Jets was on my list of companies to work for is that I could lvie and be based in DAL. I live here at the moment and commute to SLC using the non-rev bennies. I think it would be tougher not having that option. Net Jets is a good company, better than any regional, I and would love to work there. I just will not leave a job that I have seniority at to commute. Did it once and I hope to not do it again.

Willy 21, your reasoning makes perfect sense to me. I wasn't aware of your current situation. You sound like you'd be a perfect candidate for my consumer campaign.;) When you turn down the job be sure to tell them why. The cause you help may be your own if the domicile system is expanded enough to be workable for pilots, or better yet, scrapped all together.

Airbear, please let us know if that happens. It sounds like a good barometer to me, as well.

Just to reiterate a previous post...and beat a presently dead horse, I sure hope DAL opens up by the end of the year. Although I would have to commute, I could do it affordably, and on my on terms, to DAL. I could make it work, with just a bit more pain to LAX. Otherwise, I have to really rethink the numbers.

Waiting on the interview with fingers crossed...

Bear with us, VVJM, as we're having a thought fixation on DAL. It got pulled a lot faster than I expected it to, seems as though you guys think so, too. Now it just doesn't seem to me that they've hired enough new pilots to have filled a domicile, yet. Sooo there has to be more to it. The 2 of the 5 which are most affordable were already popular with NJ pilots for that reason. If memory serves me, when they were negotiating the failed TA (popularly called the POSTA) the company wanted even less than 5 domiciles. Only the coastal cities. (If I'm recalling this incorrectly, I trust the NJ pilots will chime in.) Pilots complained, and to win votes they added CMH and DAL to the list. There was talk, briefly, of adding DEN--another interior city, makes sense, right? So looking back, they were never really too interested in CMH and DAL to begin with. I think they just got used to the idea of the 5 while the contract battle waged on.

It all comes back around to the pathetic FO wages. Fewer lived near the big, expensive cities because they couldn't afford to. They want pilots in those places, and yes, I can see that makes sense in the frac industry. So now they're trying to "force" pilots to go there. Problem is, they didn't increase the FO pay enough to make it an attractive option to any but those who were already in the area. I don't like what they're doing to aviation families and I hope their system falls like a house of cards. Speaking of cards..send them in. It's the only chance you have to fight back against things like this.

NJW,

I'm hanging. It could all change by the end of the year, when I could start. To speak metaphorically, as you are so fond of doing, I'm just throwing out some seeds, where I can, in hopes that something will take root.

Trust all is going well on your other case...

Thanks for asking. The audio tapes have been sent to the deception expert....lieseeker.com.
I'm finishing my observations and analysis to turn in.

We're fighting on! We'll start pushing for forensic test results. I don't have to be a frac pilot to understand foot-dragging by those too arrogant to admit they messed up. I was told in Jan "they're gonna get on that". That's why I can identify with those who deal with broken promises. But when you know the truth, you can't back down. No matter what the other side does.

I emailed in a resume at least 3 weeks ago, and haven't heard a peep. I was getting ready to send another one but now I'm not so sure, because I wanted DAL as a domicile. However, I could also live with PBI. Anybody have any idea?

Capn...you have othing to lose by interviewing.......Heck, if they offer you a domicile you don't like you can always turn it down and tell them why....if they decide to open it up again you may be one of the fiirst ones they call for it considering they were going to hire you inthe first place.

I don't see the harm in going?????? It doesn't appear they know what's going on either, alot of things can change between now and then.

Arch - can't wait to hear how your interview went and what they tell you about LAX. After my next Baja trip I'll email Derinda and ask what the plans are for the future - this may spell it out. I REALLY hope it's a case by case basis!!

Good luck and we're all sure you'll do great!!

Something to keep in mind about these domiciles.

DAL or CMH or whatever may be closed today, and the others available. But as soon as the available today domiciles get heavy with newhires, then they will close those and open the others back up. And round and round the open/closed wheel will turn.

They are planning on hiring a lot of pilots, they cannot have filled any one domicile at this point. Doesn't make sense. That's just the way I see it.

Don't fret over what is being offered today, wait and see what is offered if you get the job. If you don't like it, tell them so. I would be willing to bet that the above post that you will likely be on their list for that opening will be reality. Makes thier life easier.

YOMV

If they play games with the pilots' futures--now you see it, now you don't-- I don't think their lives will be easier. They will have to follow the rules they already agreed to. That's what a contract is for. And I'm quite sure they have been reminded of that.

I'm with DO. Go to your interviews and ask for the domicile that works best for you. Ask what their system is for assigning pilots. These are critical issues for your families that should not be made on a whim, especially someone else's!

It could all be a temporary thing with all those Independence guys they picked up. Perhaps they were grouped around certain regions and flooded those domiciles for now.
