Why would you come on a board wher epeople come toseekadvice and tear their dreams down? If a person has a desire to be a professional pilot why try and tear them down just because you dont like it? Not everyone is getting into it for the 100K pay. I myself am fine with $70-80K. Why berate your own profession?

BEWARE OF DOG

"why? i like dogs, here boy!!" *pet-pet*

(*GROWL!!*) (biting, ripping, schredding, sounds of screaming)

Flyguy6, who are you addressing?

This is the greatest gig on the planet. In 2005 I flew, laid over or went to training 144 days. About 80 overnights in those 144 days worked . I flew 375 hours in 3 types, Asia, Europe and stateside trips. There are great jobs out there, clean living pays off. Don't let these burned out crab asses dampen your dreams. Life is , and your job is what you make it.

Great 'gig'. Wow dude, gnarly, rippin', cool.

You're missing the point. We all love to fly, we all do work like you cite (most of us anyway). It is great most of the time. But.....if you have to do it for the pay, eventually it'll come to bite you. So, the point is (as Pilotyip says well) fly because you like to (or love to) -- not because you HAVE to.

Crabasses -- I like that one!

You have a medical problem, you want to see an experienced Dr. You have a legal problem, you want to see an experienced lawyer. You want a flying career, why not listen to experienced pilots? Plenty on the forum.

Youthful exuberance is wonderful. Jettin' around the planet is a great gig. Call me in 10 years and let me know how it's going.

Well Fugawe, I guess I should have used language more age appropriate than "gig". I am ever so sorry to have offended you. Wow dude, gnarly, rippin', cool are not in my limited vacabulary.
You smart mouth me with"You have a medical problem, you want to see an experienced Dr. You have a legal problem, you want to see an experienced lawyer. You want a flying career, why not listen to experienced pilots? Plenty on the forum.

Well Fugawe, it has been a great ride, I am more than likely your age, and I pray I will still feel the same in 10 years, if not I will do something else. Simple! I know not everyone can just " do something else" but I choose to use my off time doing just that. The only point I was hoping to make is that for someone looking to get in this career field, there are some great jobs in aviation, it can give you a hell of a great life, and that it is not all doom and gloom in aviation. These post's are filled with angry people who hate flying and I don't. I think this is the greatest job out there. Sorry, I am happy, positive and love my job. I am happy you have a billion hours and Big Iron types( I love Boeings and you are a fortunate guy to have been able to fly the best). I just wish once and a while someone can say they enjoy their job without getting whacked here for saying it.

Hmm, I don't see it as 'smart-mouthing' -- perhaps I come from a more matter-of-fact background......i.e. say what you think. No offense intended.

You make good points. I think we view the picture similarly, but write differently from diff perspectives. I don't view the glass as half empty either. Perhaps the posts indicate that to you.

I simply advocate a lifestyle that doesn't force you to depend on the flying job........this will ensure you keep loving the 'job'. It's really not the job you love, it's the flying. If the job aspect becomes a burden, the associated flying will suffer. A simple truth many discover only too late. Ask the Delta guys. I've got many friends there and they certainly are not talking about any of the great trips they fly.

I could not agree more Fugawe, we never know what the future holds. I tend to like your posts, you are a realist, I am as well and you are not one of the angry crabasses. Life is what we make it and always have a plan B in the back pocket.

people blame immigrants for problems caused by globalization.

and companies are running around talking about shortages in all industries. the simple fact is, the shortages they are talking about are qualified applicants willing to work for peanuts

You are fine with 70-80k? How old are you? Do you have a Family? Own a home? Can you afford to retire at age 60? 70-80k is chump change for someone with a wife and a kid or two. Homes are $$$. Kids education is $$$. Saving for retirement takes $$$. I bet you will change your tune when you get older. Time will tell.

Dang? I didn't type that word -- the friggin' censors are way too busy. Thought I typed da-mn.

We went from bitter pilots, to bitter coffee, then to de-caff then to Dang,
an orange drink developed by NASA. We've come full circle?

Anyone out there right now thinking about getting into this retarded industry STOP!!!! Go check out schools that teach you trades, such as electrical, welding, or heating and cooling to name a few. As a poor flight instructor who is in debt beyond your wildest dreams please take this advice seriously. This country is hurting for qaulified technicians in these related fields. I will be attending school on heating and cooling myself part time here in a few months. Just consider this a friendly public announcement.

What! Get out of AVIATION? Never.

Positive action gets positive results. Negative action gets negative results.

Pattern-Master: I do feel for you but your problem is all negativism, and from your experience level you’re just getting stated. In this business your experience says to me that you're just getting "INTERESTED IN AVIATION."

You have done the hard part now it's just time to figure how to make a living in this industry. Maybe its corporate, maybe it's aircraft sales, maybe it's the flight school business. All can make money. Airlines can make money too.

But more than anything, and I mean no disrespect here, its YOU.

In my area the CFI's leave the FBO's as quickly as they are hired. None are working as CFI's longer than about 6-months and then it’s off the commuters or the corporate jobs. After a few years at the commuters there’re ready for any job: FedEx, Jet Blue, or Flying for a Fortune 500 company. I see people who do this all the time. And those corporate jobs pay over 100K.

Pattern-Master just be patient and set your sights higher. And if you want to go beyond the traffic pattern, I suggest changing your name from “Pattern-Master” to something like "Galaxy-Master." You must set your sights on the stars, not the traffic pattern. Instead of no avitar you need an image of how you want to see yourself. Maybe as the pilot you want to be, not as the heating and air-conditioning repairman you've become interested in becoming. Herein lies the problem from the few clues you have provided.

Remember the law: Positive actions get positive results. Negative actions get negative results.

I do believe this.

Do I recommend the aviation profession to young people? I have to my son and my son-in-law and both are corporate pilots, formerly commuter airline pilots and formerly CFI’s just like you.

Good luck and don’t give up now.

Comments/Questions are welcome.
