Jumpseat and Politics

It seems like some of you assume you have the RIGHT to jumpseat. Its not a right, its a PRIVILEGE. And if an individual Capt doesn't want you on the jumpseat for whatever reason, you're out of luck.

Just say thank you and head for the next flight to where ever you're going.

That may be true, but is certainly not how we do things at Southwest. I'm thinking Newman is going to have a hard time fitting in.

Actually FJ - they were not even jumpseating - plenty of seats so they were non-reving. Just like DL-NW blended non-rev together before becoming one airline, SW can list and non-rev on AAI flights just like one of their employees and vice versa. Priority is after all own airline employees and before all other offline, buddy pass etc.

So, Fubijaaker - what say you now? If an individual Capatain doesn't want you in a cabin seat on his flight "for whatever reason" - like he doesn't like your uniform - is that ok? We're still out of luck?

Looks like Mr Newman is our "Uncle Larry" who gets drunk at the family function, licks the ice sculpture and fondles the dog. Sorry for those that had to deal with him. I thought we were all professionals here. SWA pilots have been more than courteous when I've asked for permission to ride the JS and those SWA pilots I've carried on mine have been more than gracious for the ride. SLI is water under the bridge. Let's all move on and play well together. It's nice to be important but more important to be nice.

No, I was just referring to the cockpit jumpseat. A jumpseat request that is issued a cabin seat makes you just another non-rev in my book.

While I agree with most everything that AAI and SWA pilots have said on the issue, but I do NOT think it's appropriate to call the pilot out by name on FLIGHTINFO...our own SWAPA/ATN forums?--Sure, but not here.

I thought that the nameless part of this forum was standard procedure. Once again, not condoning negative behavior towards commuters +/or jumpseaters.

Like I said a few months ago, my experiences with SWA commuting pilots has been great this whole time, and I look forward to working with you all.

OK. Maybe you should re-read the first post in this thread by jball then. He never said they were cockpit jumpseaters - I believe "commuting" pilots were his words. Perhaps you should read twice before dishing out advice in BIG letters .....

The Dickhead Captain from AAI is Tim Newman. Someone needs to inform MR. Newman that ******************** like this will not be tolerated..

Not condoning his actions, but I have flown with this captain many times and know that he is a good guy in and out of the cockpit. I am sure whatever he did was not a good example of his true character. FWIW

While I understand what you are saying, I have refined my position on this to.... Non Reving and jumpseating are an earned right. As far as the jumpseat goes, every airline has given pilots at my airline at one time or another a jumpseat so I feel obligated (not that I even remotely mind having a jumpseater) to extend the courtesy. I would never dream of denying someone unless they some acted extremely rude or gave a reason to deny him. In other words, I feel I owe it to the jumpseater unless he gives a reason to deny him, THAN it would be a privilege that could be denied. But I think reciprocal jumpseat rights are, in fact, a right.

You make a good point, I will never refer to Tim Newman by his real name of Tim Newman again on FI.
