Brown Brethren (and sisteren)

I hope all enjoyed the July 4th weekend!!!!!!!!!

On behalf of my former poolie partner in crime I feel it necessary to pole the pool (STS) for an update.

My guess is the July 25th class is now full?

Has anyone gotten a call for a physical lately? Any words of August classes?

Don't be shy we are all ears!

Remember swimmers, safety first, we are on the buddy system in the pool as there is apparently no Life Guard on duty..

Way to go, Hawg!

Let me be the first to congratulate you in your new job as poolie cheerleader, and I must say that you've started with a bang! The force is strong with this one, Yoda. :D

I wish that I had an answer for you, though. The last that we have heard is from lakelivin, and that was last week. My thinking is that that July class is probably close to being full, if not totally full by now. It seems that the HR's MO is to give at least 3-4 weeks notice, so that person can give like notice to their current employer. But I'm sure that everyone has probably figured that out by now.

I hope that phone rings soon! Hang in there, brutha!

Not a word Hawg. I got nothing to say accept I'm sending in a couple of guys to HR this week to see what they can find out. I'm hoping they can gather some intel for us stagnant pool swimmers. I'll keep everyone informed if a find out anything.

My phone was ringing off the charger this past weekend. All from friends, but none from brown. To me class is FULL.

The beach was great, and I got the tan of tans. Looking like a Bronze God! Man was the beach great. I can't tell you how great it was, but it was great. Did I tell you guys how great the beach was?

Ok, peeling really bad need to shed another layer of skin.

I am pulling for all you folks out there. If I get any more info in the next few days I will pass it on. RVR how long after the medical before they called with the formal class offer?
Thanks.

Hey, Bohn...

Thanks.

FYI -

I took my physical on a Friday, and got called for the formal job offer 4 days later on Tuesday (Monday was a holiday).

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Gucci,

Great news! So I suppose you are in the July 25 class?

Good luck

Good luck to all the poolies in the July 25th class. Hope we all get out of this pool very soon. I am getting some major shrinkage from it. ;) Can't wait for good news about upcoming classes.

BTW, did any of you figure out how to update your online application with flight time? Mine is read-only and won't allow updates.

GB,

It is a bit counter intuitive but try this:

http://www.upsjobs.com/cgi-bin/parse-file?TEMPLATE=/htdocs/index.html

Instead of going to APPLICATION CENTER; login. Try:

SUBMIT RESUME/CV; Edit Resume/CV; then login with email and password.

Let me know if this doesn't do the trick.

Hey lakelivin!

I did my med on a Mon. and I got the call on Thurs of the same week. It was very quick for me. The letter from the doc with the actual results from the bloodwork came on the next Mon or Tues; I don't really remember the exact day. I take it you did your med and are now waiting? Let us know when you get the good news!

1800 RVR :D

No ring here, but I'm new to the pool as of June. Any idea how long the wait is now? Who's most senior in the pool - longest wait?

Marco?
Marco?
Marco?

SonnyD,

Hello new guy. Who knows how long the wait is? I have been in for 7 months. I know of a guy in for 2.5 years. Well, now it is like 2 years 8 months.

Wish they would add a couple more points to your score for every month that you are in the pool. That way at least you know you'll be fished out sometime. I'll be sticking it out for UPS but I hope they learn from others (who jumped ship to Fedex while in class). Any news on when an August class will be?

Chris

Thought I'd share some good news to my fellow poolies.

Seems that the IPA Union's newhire welcoming dinner is scheduled for Aug. 25th. That should make the start date on Aug 22nd. Seems like it's slated for 11 newhires. No further info at this time. Good luck to all. If you hear something please share.

Second hand, but reliable...

Hey guys,

I don't know how many people visit this board, but the info has been reliable in the past. I would feel good about this info! Good luck to you all!

http://forums.airlinepilotcentral.com/showthread.php?t=642

The July 7th class started this week with 6 new-hire pilots:

727 FO: 2
727 SO: 4

The upcoming July 25th class of 18 pilots:

757/767 FO (Louisville Int'l): 5
757/767 FO (Miami): 2
757/767 FO (Louisville): 2
DC8 FO (SDF): 3
DC8 SO (SDF): 6

...and the August 18th class of 11 pilots:

757/767 FO (Louisville Int'l): 3
757/767 FO (Louisville): 5
757/767 FO (Ontario): 3

UPS is interviewing about 12 pilots per week.

Hey new guy here..thought i would give out some info for the poolies. I am not sure if i am a poolie or not. I interviewed mid June and got a call for the physical today (I am going to do it tomorrow). Never received a letter or any communication before the call today. Didnt get offered a pending class date either. Is this going to be a new type of "after physical" pool or has this happened to others also?

Congrats jetlaggy!

Congrats jetlaggy and welcome!

What you are experiencing (most likely from past performance) is the ultimate good fortune after the UPS interview - the call for the physical before the pool letter even shows up! You say you weren't offered a specific class date. Did they give you a conditional offer of employment based upon the succesful completetion of your med. and background checks? If so, you're in. If not, then either they didn't say it yet or they forgot (which I doubt), or they are doing something new (which I also doubt). My guess - you're golden. Let us know how things go!

Yes that's exactly what he said..I will keep you guys informed

Tailwinds..

You're very lucky!

Jetlaggy,

Sounds like you are in. The med is very easy. You can do a search; we've discussed this at length. Count your blessings - there are some great guys that are still swimming. Congrats and good luck.

From this moment on you will no longer be referred to as Jetlaggy. You will simply be known as THE CHOSEN ONE.

Welcome, Good luck and congrats..

Now, back to the war..

I've read a few comments on the IPA's message board (NOT public) about sponsors checking on the status of poolies with HR. When asked how it is looking for "so and so", the HR person said her computer crashed and that person had been (unknown to her) dropped from the list completely (very reassuring, huh?). Bottom line, several people got the call for class a few days after one of their sponsors did some checking. I'd recommend anyone swimming in this lame pool thing do the same. Based on years of experience here ... I would not have blind faith that UPS is "on top" of everything. Your name/data could possibly have been dropped and seniority numbers lost due to an "oversight". It's hard enough to get a major airline job ... let alone some clerical/computer error torpedoing your career prospect.

Best wishes to all ... it has got to be an agonizing wait.

BBB,

When was this computer crash? Do you think it would be better for the sponer to call or the poolie??

LLB

Here's one of the quotes from the board:

<<I did the same thing a while back. Stopped by HR and found that my buddy's
information had been lost in a recent computer crash.

He updated it again and he was hired shortly after.>>

I don't have any more information than this ... sorry. Trust me ... current UPS pilots are just as frustrated with this pool thing as you are. One of the first things you'll learn about UPS is that truckers are in charge and absent any contractual provision for a line pilot to be involved we're excluded from improving the process. (Another nuance to consider is the current state of acrimony that exists between union pilots and management as a result of the contract negotiations/threat of strike. With several mass mailings to UPS's largest customers informing them of the deteriorating state of labor negotiations ... well, it's safe to say the company is not tickled pink with its pilots right now ... oh darn.)

My inclination would be to have your sponsor make the inquiry first. When it comes to dealing with airline hiring people, unfortunately there seems to be a fine line between eagerness to begin your career and being a pest. Ask your sponsor what he/she recommends. I've called HR inquiring about a poolie before and they were forthcoming with information when I explained the circumstances in that poolie's life.

Good luck,

BBB

Thanks for the Congrats everyone!! I did the medical yesterday..no probs ..except the flights there and back. I havent flown domestic commercial airlines in a long time... what choas!! I am over 35 and did not get the "greasy finger" altho i did have a cigarette ready just in case. I did get have the family jewels handled and managed to cough. Almost felt cheated hehe Doc told me i passed before I left so I guess I will just keep checking the cell everyday since I now have to leave for my overseas TDY. Will let yall know.

Tailwinds

BTW there were 5 other UPS guys/gals on the list for medical yesterday. No way to tell if they were 25 July class leftovers or if they were new pilots for a Aug class.
