We (or at least I) have heard nothing. I also saw the news wire that said something about 30 A320 "family" aircraft that JB and Airbus were in discussions about but there has been no official word from the company to us, which is the norm if something has transpired. It is probably like you said, merely an exercise of options that were already in place or something of that nature. But honestly, nothing major has taken place, to my knowledge. At last count, our total Airbus options, orders, and current fleet totals 202 A320 family airplanes through the year 2010 (I think 2010, I might be off a year or two).

From the annual report:

"We are scheduled to add 98 new Airbus A320 aircraft and 100 Embraer 190 aircraft to our current operating fleet of 55 Airbus A320 aircraft by the end of 2011."

Currently, JB is operating 59 A-320s, so add to that an additional 94 A-320s between now and the end of 2011, plus the 100 Embraers.

SWA takes delivery of their 400th 737 in June and are expected to increase that number to 800 by 2012. Now thats a bunch o'aircraft.

To add more wood to the fire. I heard an announcement is coming that will make the 190 announcement look like chicken feed. Beats me what it is or if it is even true. You know how these things are. I'll believe it when I see it.

Yes, I have heard that one as well but my Pal had DN in the jumpseat yesterday and he didn't even flinch when asked about it. If there is any truth to it, he usually diverts the subject to something else. Although personally, I have witnessed some of his best poker faces!

Okay,

Since we're just talking about rumors, can you at least enlighten the rest of us into what you've heard.........we all realize that rumors are just that....but this "I have a secret" game isn't much fun for the rest of us

my friend at airbus in france said that there has been talk about JETBLUE getting those A380 at least 5 of them to start their international operations to europe, asia and south america!

That would be great , low fare international carrier. That would be something!
Can you say "People Express"?

Cmon guys,

This is just flame bait.

Take it for what it is worth. Rumor. Expect to be surprised but not flabergasted.

I don't know what is up, but my gut would tell me a few more options or firm orders perhaps.

Nothing more.

My $0.02.

The rumours are certainly exciting. The A380 is an enormous step, even a 330 is a huge one. The production on the 380 will probablly begin later than anticipated and the deliveries will be filled by carriers that could actually manage to operate them. As of now, the orders are only with airlines who can afford to build longer runways, larger terminals, and most importantly larger ramp areas. I don't believe there is any operator in N. America who can afford to do this, and the airport authorities certainly won't fund a project like that.

JetBlue does not appear to throw money out the window. They feel it is prudent to have their own training facilties and sims, but I don't think they can afford something as grandeous as a 380 program. This is for big money carriers in Asia and the Middle East. Not one carrier in Europe has shown interest in the 380 except for Lufthansa; which leads to the fact that a low-cost carrier has no real chance of doing this. Also with RVSM coming to the US next year, that big mamma would probablly trigger TCAS warnings whenever you get near it.

On the other hand, I heard a year ago that the 330 was a possibility. This too is big, real big........and the reason JB makes cash is because they don't do big............which has killed a lot of carriers.

>> As of now, the orders are only with airlines who can afford to build longer runways

Airlines don't build runways, airports do.

>> and the airport authorities certainly won't fund a project like that

Aviation Week recently reported that LAX said they will be ready for A380 operations.

>> I don't believe there is any operator in N. America who can afford to do this

FedEx is a launch customer of the A380-800F.

>> Not one carrier in Europe has shown interest in the 380 except for Lufthansa

Virgin Atlantic and Air France are both launch customers.

However I'm sure all your thoughts on JetBlue getting the A330/A380 are deeply researched and carefully reasoned.

Oh nevermind, Skygod beat me to the punch!

Come on G4G5, You just took all the fun out of the rumors with a researched, backed up, detailed post. You KNOW that is now how it work here....:D

Hi!

I read that ATL is preparing for the A-380.

For all those who think we don't pay for our airplanes, why wouldn't we get 330's or 380's, or better yet, both? ....Just borrowing your 'logic' for a few carefree seconds. On the other hand, lets get real again.

Not to pile on, but.......hey Land Green, FYI, size of plane has no bearing on number of TCAS alerts. The black boxes are all the same size and the intercept geometry software is all the same. So, two A380s separated by 1000' vice 2000 at FLXXX have no greater chance of increased TAs than two RJs with the same separation....in case you were curious.

Had Dave Barger in the jumpseat the other day and asked him the same question about OAK as a pilot base. He said that it wasn't going to happen.
