We've always had "CREW" printed on our company badges which was quite helpful for jumpseating (getting by some agents), and through the long security lines. Now they are telling us that TSA has started making a stink about it and are removing it.

Do your badges say "CREW" or not? (this isn't directed to flight crew)

Nope.

If you are not part of a flight crew, why would your company ID say "CREW" on it?

If you are a scheduler or a dispatcher, shouldn't it say "DISPATCH" or "ADMIN" instead?

no. our new id's will have global operations control on the bottom to make it easier to jumpseat on other carriers.

... not at Southwest either. They say Dispatch. I don't really see how we are crew members. I find it pretty interesting that you already have crew on it. Someone mentioned jumpseating. I wanted to say thanks to American and Delta for letting me j/s on them. Saved my a$$ couple of times. In Atlanta when I went through security and explained to her a was a Dispatcher for Southwest going home to Dallas, she said "wow, whats the most 911 calls you've taken in a day." Cheers.

Just to clarify, the ID has always stated our job (i.e. dispatcher, Ops Mgr, etc), just had listed "CREW", since we also had cockpit access.

I just didn't know if this was a practice in other locales.

Hi!

We ARE crew and our badges don't say it. They say "line pilot", which sometimes causes temporary problems with TSA. They'll say "You're not crew." I explain I'm a pilot, and they say "OK, but you're not crew."

Usually they let me go through, but sometimes they call a supervisor who tells them that a pilot is a crewmember.

Interesting.

Yet another reason why TSA makes me bang my head against the wall

ever notice how TSA agents coming on shift, or walking through the terminal can walk through the crew line, and not be harrassed?

when I was with C8, i had to jumpseat for requirements. They were frisking me, but this guy coming on duty just flashed his badge and they gave the ghetto head nod as he walked by.

They just CREW on our badges last week, not quite sure why...but it seems to help out a lot when offline jumpseating.

Thats why they wanted it at C8. Gate agents dont always know who/what a dispatcher is. Most of the time I had to explain to the agent of my duties to JS for requirements.
In SBN, I was sitting on the airplane during the turn. One of the gate agents came and asked me what I was doing. She thought I was messing with her, so she sent me through security. She refused to listen to the crew, and refused to call DX to find out what was going on.

Our says in very fine print: DISPATCHER

Rez, in response to your post, ... .... .... .. ... ... .... ...... ... ... ...... .... ....!

My ID says expendable, unwanted company expenditure.

Ah....and when you see the word within the words...

"ID says expendable, unwanted company expenditure" = Indenture

Crew on your ID

We are about to be CASS approved and the dispatchers are being included as well. We would therefore have inputs on what "title" would make it easier for us a group to JS. As of now we have "Dispatcher" on our ID's. Would something like Flight Dispatch Officer make things smoother. We would like to have "Crew" stamped on our badges but need arguments for TSA to approve that. Any input in this matter is appreciated. PM me if you like!

Wow, old thread. Ours still just say dispatch. After thinking about it... I really don't think it would matter if they say crew or not. Even with "crew" imprinted, not having a uniform like pilots do might still make it tough. By the way, what airline are you? Just curious since you're about to get cass. PM me if you don't want to disclose. thanks.

Ours say Dispatchers-Systems Control.

I've never had a problem with TSA except at small airports. Gate agents are another story, I've met some and wonder how the collected enough brain cells to pass 1st grade.

I'm at ASA and we use to have a CIDA badge but no longer. we are in the CASS system and our badge does not have any remarks that say crew or anything that would help in security. Does it really matter ?

SIDA badge ruled. There was that secret door that allowed to skip security entirely and be at any gate in E concourse in less than 15 mins. No Xray-no nothing. They called it the cheese grader in ATL. Those were the days. Otherwise who really cares what it says. It's a stretch to consider dispatchers "crew" anyways.
