IN addition to the above comments...

Speaking of strange....I was invited to interview for a dispatch position with Pan Am last Spring along with a bunch of pilots. When we arrived at the airport to fly to PSM we were all told that the interviews were cancelled and to go home! I called several times after this only to be told they needed help, but the budget had been cut that morning and BMA across the room was starting to gear up to add the 727's to their certificate....that was the last I heard from them....

Personally I would steer clear as the others have suggested, I have no reason to dispute the ALPA accusations, infact they make sense to me now. Good luck!

Captain,

I would say you just earned the title.

Thank God that ALPA, or any other recognized group, does not issue condemnations, such as "scab", because a guy on the internet thinks they should.

Maybe we should let the readers know the truth. Pan Am was purchased out of bankrupcy thereby saving all the jobs of the pilots. One of the Principals involved in the purchase became a 727 rated pilot and asked in return to be placed at the top of the seniority list. Call it Vanity or whatever, but in exchange for saving the company it seems like a small request. (What would the SWA guys do if Herb Had become 737 Qualified and asked to be the #1 pilot? You think they would have said no? ) Anyway, the ALPA guys at Pan Am in their infinite winsdom decided to STAPLE the one guy who saved their jobs. Nice going guys. Piss off the the one guy who wanted to save your airline and grow it. The junior to mid level pilots at Pan Am wanted to get ALPA off the property because of their Radical views and actions, so now we have the situation at BMA.

Sad.....

Okay Mr Megadeath...play on.

Where do we start.

1. I am mid level on the PAA seniority list and you are full of schiet. There has never been a move to get rid of ALPA from the property.

2. Yes, Tim Mellon did buy the Carnival/Pan Am airline out of bankruptcy and did want to be put in on the ALPA seniority list as NUMBER one as the owner. He was already a management pilot and could pick and choose what part of the schedule he wanted to fly. ALPA objected because no one is allowed to jump seniority. What is the beef? Why would you want to be number one on a seniority list when you don't belong to ALPA anyway?

3. All of the above has absolutely nothing to do with why BMA exists. BMA exists in its present form because at least one of the principles doesn't like that he can't fire people whenever he wishes. If you have any knowledge of the workings in PSM, find out why we had a crew fired for telling dispatch they were fatigued ( that case is with OSHA)? Why was a Captain fired for not flying beyond the 16 hour FAR duty day? Why have pilots been fired for refusing to fly broken airplanes?
http://www.seacoastonline.com/2002news/12212002/news/4175.htm

4. Why do MX people get sued by the company after they leave?

5. Ask the C.P. at BMA about the day he got fired til they found out they would have to restart the 121 certification process if they let him go.

6. You can't ask they guy(cause he got fired) about losing an engine in the CASA at ABE after flying 9 hrs and they made the crew rent a car and drive back that night.

Do you know that in the last three years that PAA has had more pilots fired by management than Continental, Delta, and Northwest combined. Every one of those pilots has been ordered reinstated by a neutral arbitrator. And then with most of them binding arbitration isn't enough. Management doesn't like when they lose so, it ends up in Federal court.

How long have you been here? I've been here since 1999, and I've seen it all.

If you want to speak the truth..speak all the truth.

Hey woxof

Let me put it in hockey terms for ya,

Lets say the NHL owners decide they don't like the players contracts, and their management decides that we are gonna lock the players out.

Then they decide that they are going to use the AHL players to play out the hockey season calling the team in Boston the Bruins but with a little a little b on their uniforms in stead of the Larger B.

You don't think that those players are SCABS?

You can try to justify it all you want but when you fly a 727, call yourself PAN AM... little letters clipper connection. Book your trips on the Pan American Airways website, tell the pax that they are flying on Pan American Airways, then show up with a group of pilots and F/A's with little bma on their Jackets...its the same thing.

Its not me saying this it's a federal judge.

I don’t think any of the SWA guys would be doing any back slapping if Herb ran off the end of the runway while acting as PIC on a live 121 flight damaging a Boeing 727, injuring passengers and jeopardizing the entire crews lives as well as there certificates as our vain owner did. Leave the flying to the professionals. And please if your going to tell the truth, tell it all for the readers. He didn’t ask to be number one, he just made it so. And if he wants to buy an airline out of bankruptcy that’s his gig. We have worked our butts off to make this a good place to work trying to help it prosper.

In turn this situation is derived from the companies complete disregard for the collective bargaining agreement that they signed. They unjustly intimidated and fired our leadership and ignored everything that they agreed too. Instead of coming to the table and working things out they decided to make a mirror image of what they are now just without the Union and it‘s CBA.

On the issue at hand, ALPA does not do anything until the Pan American Pilots vote on issues to be addressed. ALPA represents the pilots according to the Railway Labor Act and a collective bargaining agreement fairly signed by both parties. ALPA did not just go out and bring legal action against these folks. The Pan American Pilots voted to make this happen after due process was exhausted. That said I am absolutely certain that when the Pan American Pilots are locked out of there jobs and BMA pilots listed on there 727 seniority list are flying our flights, there will be yet another vote. That's how a union works. My shoes are already shined up for the picket line.

It’s not sad, it’s sick. I am honored to be on the Pan American pilot side of this issue and relieved to know that I will never have the nasty label attributed to those who disregard at all costs what is simply right. It is truly a stench that can never be washed away no matter how hard one tries. In all my fourteen years as a pilot no matter how nice of a person one may be or great stick, it is there for all to see.

As for the original poster to this thread, there is no “beef” with the J31 pilots. They seem to be a good bunch of people. Hard workers and all. Probably a good opportunity for some. It’s the 727’s and other large aircraft that we are capable of and have flown as professionals that is at issue.

Lightning I think you hit the nail on the head. Unfortunately there are those in this world who disregard what is simply right. There is a long list of these individuals in the history of our profession. I am, as you are, relieved that it is not me that has to wake up in the morning and face the person that has such disrespect and disregard. I was told once that the most imprortant things we ever learned were in Pre-School. I think that holds very true in this case.

For those who stand on the other side of this issue, that is your god given right in our country to do so, and it is welcomed. Perhaps a day may come when the crews at PAA are locked out at PSM and the 6am BMA 727 show crew for the morning originator arrives to meet the welcoming committee, it is then when those in a hazed denial might very well be faced with a harsh reality. Time will tell my friends.

Well, I wonder where ALPA was when 2000 TWA pilots got there A** handed to them by APA? Staple 15 yr Captains below newhires. ALPO turned they're back on a 75 year charter membership and refused to file an injunction while APA was raping a pilot group. Kinda leaves a bad taste in your mouth. This may come as a surprise, but there are many out there who could give a Sh** about ALPA, APA and unionism in general. From what I hear, many BMA guys are ex-TWA.

Lucy, you’ve got some splaining to doo!

Hey maybe in the end the owners of PAA will be sitting around drinking Champaign and smoking Cuban cigars. Meanwhile the 727 BMA pilots will be standing around with candy in one hand, the other hand in the cookie jar looking at each others Kool-Aid stained lips, wondering where that permeating foul stench came from!

I’m tired of being politically correct.

The Fact is that the 727 BMA pilots are Non-Union REPLACEMENT WORKERS who are flying our flights or flights that we are capable of flying in equipment that we are qualified to fly. Attempting to justify their actions is like giving a monkey a machine gun. It’s just stupid.

Hey you can believe in all you want. This is America after all. What management is doing is illegal. That means against Federal law. This is not TWA or American Airlines. This may surprise YOU, but there are many out there who do give a Sh** about ALPA, APA and unionism in general.
I bet the TWA guys got a lot of good contracts in those 75 years because of ALPA.

Sounds like a threat. Is it?

Ethically Right

Certainly not! Simply stating the facts that BMA 727 pilots were hired as Non-Union replacement workers. PAA management wishes to circumvent the collective bargaining agreement that they signed and unseat ALPA as a representative to the PAA pilot group. http://alpa.org/alpa/DesktopDefault.aspx

If and when there is a vote to walk a picket (that would be the welcoming committee) line it will the legal right of the PAA pilots to do so. Should that be the case they will let the rest of the professional pilot community and media around the world know what is happing here. That would be their right to free speech.

In the mean time there is a public difference of opinion. You state yours and I’ll state mine. While many posts here say that there is nothing wrong with what’s going on at BMA, I’m going to disagree. So go ahead and STAPLE the PAA pilots. Have a good time at it. Meanwhile the PAA pilots will continue to do what is legally, morally and ethically right.
