chperplt: I don't buy them, they are free. If I and all the rest of the pilots who have to use passes to commute stoped, it sure would be tough on everyone else who is trying for that jumpseat.
Surplus1 or is it "Mr. Pass Police": Your probably also the hat police at your respective airline. Anyway, If I am breaking the rules then we better tell the other tens of thousands of airline personel that use passes to commute. With all the downsizing and elimination of hubs these days, it's the only way most of us can get to work. Why don't you go to DFW and monitor the gate and rat out all the DAL and ASA pilots and F/A's who are using their passes because of the forced commute they now have to do to get to ATL or CVG or SLC.
With an attitude like your's I think your better suited for a management position under Frank Lorenzo or Carl Ichan. I'm sure your fellow aviators really respect and admire you.
G.L.: It's exactly that " What am I supposed to do about it" attitude that has our piloting profession so fractured. We only care about issues when they affect us, not the other guy. Maybe if ALPA was a real national union, they would fight for all of their members all of the time instead of when it only benefits ALPA national. An example is when the TWA MEC gave a power point presentation in Herndon VA. in 2001 about what was then a little known aspect of bankruptcy code. That little known and missunderstood item is what is called an 1113. Something we all know too well about these days. If ALPA wasn't so concentrated on sleeping with the APA, and sacrificing one of the ALPA founding father airlines (TWA), and just listened to us, ALPA could have had a head start on changing the bankruptcy laws and not alow the 1113 to be used as the ulitmate hammer against labor. But we (TWA MEC) were told at that meeting, "hey, nice presentation, but it won't happen to us, plus we have bigger issue's like getting Delta plus a dollar for the other airlines."
Everyone else: This isn't a topic I just pulled out of thin air, on my commutes and talking with many other DAL pilots and F/A's, they have also brought up this concern. It turns out, many wern't all that happy that DCI got DOH for passes, and with the Delta hub network shrinking, and Comair opening up JFK as a base, the pass issue is becoming a topic of concern.
So again, I reiterate not just for me, but for the thousands of other pilots and F/A's who are now commuting not because they want to but because they have to, are there any airlines who give DOH pass benefits to there feeder airlines that are not wholly owned?
