I left an engineering job that paid pretty well, (boring, but well) and took part-time work in order to complete my training. I figure I lost about $40k per year, times the number of years it took me to regain that amount, the cost is too high and too painful to think about!

I completed all my flight training from the late 70's to mid 80's, no comparison to todays prices. Completely different world entirely today!

Agreed, Private in early 70's cost me $750 including all flight time, ground school, medical and FCC permit. Tuition at Auburn was $175 per quarter when I started, $250/qtr when I graduated. My how times have changed. I would steer clear of this racket at today's prices.

BTW, my private instructor billed $5/hr and the Cessna 150 was $10/hr with fuel. $12/hr if you wanted the Citrabia!
