I've seen the posted minimums. Do they ever hire below this or are the minimums hard limits?

I'm 23 with 1100 hours, 600 of it 121 turbojet. I want to get to CS as soon as possible. I realize now I'm a little low but I'm thinking more of when I have 1500TT. I'm pretty laid back and prep well for interviews. Do I have a chance?

Also I've heard that they don't like to hire young pilots (ie 23). Is this true? Thanks for any info. Can't wait to join you guys.

1500TT is 500 hours short of their published minimums:

Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (Multi-Engine Land)
Current FAA First Class Medical Certificate
2,000 hours total pilot time
1,500 hours fixed wing multi-engine time
750 hours pilot-in-command time
500 hours turbine time
200 hours within the last 12 months
Restricted Radiotelephone Operators Permit
Current Passport

I'm pretty sure the mins are hard.

As far as young, not a problem, I flew with a 25 year old captain here....

Goood luck

I think their average hire has around 6000 hours.

That said, it never hurts to start applying when you meet the minimums.

And remember, when some company that says the average new hire has X hours, it just means that some have more than X hours and some have less than X hours. When I got hired at NetJets, the touted average TT for new-hires was 5700 hours but I had less than that.

If you want to go to CS, start applying when you meet their mins.

I applied a year ago and the chief pilot responded back with a thanks but no thanks. They want alot of flight time and typically like old guys and gals. Lots of retired airline guys i guess.

Good luck though. If you know the right people than it doesnt matter i guess.

How did you manage to get into an RJ with 500 TT? Just curious - not flaming you at all.

That happens all the time now - the last time I flew on a Mesa Dash 8 the FO only had about 500 hours. And the Captain was a street hire. And we were going into Aspen. And both of them were younger than me (<30). I gave some thought to waiting for the next flight but I doubt it would have been any better. They did a fine job with it though so I guess I cant complain...

Evidently you can't read and you can't search for their minimums on their website. Doubt you have a chance if you can't read. By the way, 1500 hours is less than 2000 hours. You are too laid back to even search their website... I'm sure you'll be responsive to customer needs. Good luck.

Take it easy there johnson.. your gonna live up to your name. He said he had read their posted mins.. wanted to know if they hired below those.. I think it was a legit question as some do hire those without posted mins.

Evidently YOU can't read because the whole point of my post was to ask if they hire below minimums. I do lots of reading and research, which is also what this is. By the way just cause I fly for a regional doesnt mean I don't know about customer service, I traded flight time in a 135 for manual labor when I was a student. Finally, if you are the type of people that I'd be flying with at CS then maybe I should rethink my goals.

He (or she) had a pulse and could fog a mirror..........

At an average wage of $18,000 your 1st year, the regional airlines are taking pilots where ever they can find them. 500 TT sounds about right.

I was curious if he was an intern or had simply gotten hired at low time.

As for the "$18,000 your 1st year", been there.

Most of the CS guys I've met on the road have been older, quite a few ex-airline. Probably 10k-20k TT. That would bring up that average hire time quite a bit. I did meet a guy once who was pretty young and had flown the EMB-110 at Airnow. I doubt he had too much more than a few thousand TT when hired. Haven't heard anyone bad-mouth the company. Even the airline guys say they like it once the adjustment to frac flying takes place.

Mr. I.

CS has hired a few people with 2000-3000 hours, but not very many. Most people are coming from regionals or retired airline. The retired airline guys bring the average time a newhire has to between 6000-7000 hours but many are hired with 3000-5000 total time. Almost all have some sort of turbine PIC time.

Thanks all for the info. Sounds like I'm gonna have to meet someone for a chance.

I've sent in an app. 3200 TT about 2000 jet 600 PIC in CE-500/550/560. Can't get them to fart in my general direction. I even put in a call to their HR department and got an email saying "we have decided to hold on your application for the time being".

If you don't have internal recs, forget it. Seems like it's that way for every single decent job out there. Your quals don't matter one bit....it's all about who you know.

Or you can "pay your dues" like the rest of us. I hate to pick on you or the system, but you got a great break to get into an RJ with 500 hrs, now you want to "meet someone for a chance". Fly your RJ. Build your flight time. Upgrade to Captain. Get some experience. Meet or exceed the posted minimums. Apply. If you are any good, your qualifications will open the doors for you.

Dont rely on others to carry you thru life.

No prob I can see how I'm coming across like this. I just want to point out that I've been paying my dues for 6 years. And I will continue to pay them for as long as necessary. This past year especially living waaay below the poverty level and barely being able to afford food was awesome. And it wasn't a great break it was years of hard work that got me the internship which got me the reduced interview minimums. I was the only 1 of 30 applicants chosen for the internship from my school because I worked my ass off and was competitive, I didn't know anyone.

That all being said I realize that I do need to pay my dues, and I will quietly and comfortably fly my RJ until I can get the hell out of the crappy regional industry. I'm not looking for a handout; it's just in my nature to be competitive and to always look for the advantage over the other guy. I refuse to be one of these 8 year regional captains with 10000 hours who just got comfortable with the semi-good schedule and mediocare pay. I'm not knocking it; it may be for some guys, but its not for me.

Wow!!! Someone actually had a responsible reply AND post. You may have to bring the maturity level down a notch to really fit in.....LOL!

Good answer, btw.

28 yrs old, hired at CS two years ago with 2700tt. Built a relationshp with them for 4 years, and got the job. Keep the faith!

MR. IRRELEVANT: I'm with CS and I know the guy you're talking about who's from Airnow. He has 6000+ hours and was an assistant chief pilot. Great pilot to fly with.

They are looking for high time people, because the high end people in the back demand it and pay a lot of money.

If you want a job with any fractional, the regionals are a great way to get the experience we're looking for. Go throw the gear at a Mesa, Transtates, Mesaba, Piedmont, Chautauqua, and the about 30 more I can think of.

There is a difference between quality time vs just filling the logbook.
