Maybe, but the excellent pilot won't have any trouble making it through training.
 
He HAS to tell all other carriers he was hired at the "major,", and what happened. If he doesn't it in lying on his application, and that is cause for termination. Even if it doesn't show up in his record, this industry is small- someone will know about and eventually the new company will find out.
