I already said what I'd do.Where would you have put it, Mr. arm chair quarterback? Weather going below forecast at your destination and alternate in the South Pacific doesn't leave you many options. Ditched in the Pacific with no serious injuries, hmmm, "Epic fail"? Not. Good call? Absolutely.
I'll take a controlled touch down on the airport surface, equivalent to a Cat III landing, even if the autopilot isn't rated for it, than attempting an ocean landing with 7 foot swells.
We actually train for those in the sim from time to time. "1200 RVR below minimums but you're out of fuel and options" approaches.
