Furloughed

What is UPS stance on hiring furloughees?
Fed Ex says no...unless it's USAir - got this from a FedEx Capt I work in the reserves with.

UPS has hired many furloughees in the past. Delta, American and USAir. No requirement to give up a seniority number. Lots of them left to go back when they were recalled. I guess UPS was being nice. I hope this helps.
Cheers,
A-300 Capt

well, im sure gouge is somewhere floating around or will be soon. First round of interviews started today. Saw a few blue suit/red tie guys waiting around today at the training center.

Good luck to everyone ..... A300 is the current word on sim. Minimal automation.

Hello All,

To put in my two cents. I went to three Air Inc. fairs to follow the UPS Team about 3 years ago. They loved the resume(as I was told each time), but told me that one LOR from a senior pilot was not enough. That I need many LORs. Now with 75/76 time under my belt (current 75/76 and alot of international time as well) I am hoping for a shot at the interview. So to the brown tails on this board what do you think my chance for an interview is?

Have a nice day.

The last Air Inc I went to, the UPS rep told me that I had a good resume also.. :D
BUT i needed "someone to root me on." I took that to mean at least one. But that was pre 9-11 so I'll go with my one with some prior UPS employment history and think positive thoughts and keep trying. I am sure it is a scramble by thousands for the few 100 or more available. Good luck. :D
BTW, does anyone know if UPS will be in attendance to the upcoming AIR INC. seminars?

Really disgusting that you have to know someone to get into a place like this instead of experience and a good background in international cargo operation. You'd think it would be embarrasing to ask for.

I wouldn't call it disgusting, just discouraging. Once you get the mins, it's not what you know....but who you know! (or sometimes phrased.....it's not WHAT you do, but WHO you do).

I guess I did it right then!

And this is different from any other airline how? With all the competition to get into this profession, and to be more exact, this airline, you need something to set apart some from others. There are plenty of people out there who are qualified, but do they fit the profile the company is looking for? Remember, one may send in a resume that meets or exceeds the mins, but a resume cannot tell a prospective employer about his/her character.

The next best thing for the company is to rely on their own people for rec's. If a company is satisfied with one of it's own employees, chances are this person won't reccomend someone that would be a bad choice.

So, I wouldn't call it disgusting nor discouraging. It has been this way at ALL airlines for a very long time. Making connections IN ADDITION TO building your resume up is part of paying your dues. I think you will find this to be true in a lot of other industruis as well.

Duh......obviously it is the way it works in this industry. It isn't any more so at UPS. I know you have a good job and may have taken offense. My point was that it can be discouraging if you don't know anyone at THAT AIRLINE. It isn't any different at "brown".

I am not a low-time King Air F/O hoping to make it to the majors. I realize what this industry is like......I've been there, been furloughed.

Next time I will be more clear.....and quit eatin' all my gad domn oreos clyde!
