H&K Pilot Offer Expired

I was looking into buying the H&K USP Compact pistol using the pilot program for the reduced price but found out that the program expired on October 30th this year!

Maybe if we all contact H&K and tell them that we want the program brought back they might reconsider cancelling it. Send them an e-mail if you are interested, or even if your not, but want the program back.

People... I didn't post this to start a pissing match about what guns are better than H&K, or what someone should buy instead. I just wanted to let everyone know that H&K recently ended this program that let you get a handgun that sells for close to $1000 for a reduced price of I believe $650. Whether you like the gun or not, that is a great deal! I'm just hoping that if enough pilots write H&K to let them know that they want the program back, they will reconsider getting rid of it and reinstate the offer.

Some may not have qualified until after the offer expired on Oct. 30th. You have to be a certified commercial pilot working at an airline or cargo company to qualify for the reduced price.

I'd have thought if anyone seriously wanted the HK, they'd have got it by now. Got mine. LEM trigger is fine but the pull is nearly 8 pounds. There's a mod (compression, hammer and elbow springs) to reduce that closer to 5#. Anyone done this?

That gun is a great gun but there are many out there that are as good or better. Really it is too big to conceal for personal purposes and its also really heavy for a handgun. Don't worry about it just keep looking around. There are many equal quality guns in the $550 range without a law enforcement/pilot discount.

It is still available. The offer expired every year around that time only to be replaced by the new offer (at about $50 more each year). Now it has moved to their sight, not the capapilots website or whatever it was. I love mine.

The Sig discount was whatever their LEO discount was, which I think was 20%. It is not around any more though. You had to call Sig customer service directly and order thru them. They would then send the pistol to your Sig dealer. It was never advertised as much as the HK offer was. Ohh, the offer was over the entire pistol line, not just one model.

www.gtdist.com, all you need to know for discounts on guns. They are good guys to work with and ship to any FFL in the country. They can not ship Glock's except to Oklahoma and Texas, but Glock has LEO dealers in every large city in the USA.

Buy one that fits your hand; rent a few at a local range and shoot a couple of clips. See what feels best. Don't go by what anyone else recommends. You'll wind up with something you might not like; they ain't cheap. I prefer carrying a Glock. All day, every day and twice on Sunday. I even keep one in my wife's nightstand when I am on the road; simple point and shoot with no ridiculous external safety. Yea I know what your gonna say but if my finger is on the trigger than my intention is to use it. To each his own.

I have a Sig 229 .40 which is a fantastic weapon and quite accurate, but I carry a G19 because it is substantially lighter and cheaper to shoot than the .40 so I am more proficient with it.

Many folks like the new Springfield XDs, but if you wanna talk about ugly Glock knockoffs, the story begins and ends with these abominations. Springfield should have stuck to the 1911 as their autoloader of choice...

I guess I still dont get why guys go so gaga over this program. The USP .40 is an old gun(almost 20 years old). There are much newer guns(including newer H&K's like the P30) that are better as well as cheaper than the USP. I am an avid shooter, but have never considered picking up the USP because of these things. I could almost have 2 glocks or 2 M&P's for the price of the USP. If I was buying an H&K right now it would be a P30 LEM V2 or a P2000 V3.

You really can't compare a Glock with the USP Compact; its like a Chevy vs. a BMW in terms of build quality. A Chevy will get you point A to B, but the BMW has fine lines, is well balanced, and just RUNS.

Sig vs. HK is a better, more realistic argument and that's where HK loses in a head-to-head, though its still a fine weapon.

As for "ballistics"...I'll just copy a post I made on thehighroad.org a while back:

Using Remington Golden Saber ballistics, the 124gr 9mm Luger leaves the muzzle at 1125fps with 349 ft/lb energy, dropping to 293 ft/lb at 50 yards. The same bullet in a +P loading gives you 1180fps with 384 ft/lb energy at the muzzle, falling to 327 ft/lb at 50 yards.

The 165gr Golden Saber .40SW leaves the muzzle at 1150fps, with 485ft/lb of energy, falling to 396 at 50 yards.

When compared to the 9mm +P, the 40SW leaves the muzzle 2.6% slower but has 26% more energy at the muzzle and 21% more energy at 50 yards. I'm no expert, but I'd say a 20% increase in energy is a fair bit more than "barely more powerful".

Im going to trust Doc Roberts and Doc Fakler when they say .357 sig is an inferior round. Bullet setback is a very common issue with the .357 sig round as well.

Setback might have been an issue 15 years ago when the round was first commercially available, but its not an issue with current ammunition. That's like telling someone "You shouldn't shoot reloaded 40s in Glocks" because of a few incidents that happened a decade-plus ago.

As far as "inferior round" goes...tell that to the Secret Service & Federal Air Marshals (of note), along to the dozens of other local/state/federal law enforcement agencies that issue the .357 SIG to their officers instead of the 9mm or 40SW.
