My phone was blowing up on Wednesday. POTA POTA POTA. First time this has happened to me as a 190 FO. I guess the overstaffed days are officially over.

What is POTA? Extensions? How many options does US Air have for e190s?

It is what I knew previously as a Jr. Man.

Get this - NO EXTRA PAY
NO LIMIT TO HOW MANY TIMES PER YEAR THEY CAN DO IT

LOA 93 is a massive turd!

Options - I think the number 45 was wot I remember. That means nothing, and they aren't about to spend the money nor increase domestic operations. My money is on getting rid of the 15 E190's when the next wave of economic reality crashes down upon our s*************************. <---S h o r e s is blocked?!? That ain't even close to prostitute.

Printing money not backed by hard assets - HOW DOES IT WORK?

The 190 staffing is kinda weird. Most guys I know got a call on Wednesday, but if you look at CATCREW there are still guys with 00:00 hours for the month. I have seen extremes from as much as 10+ people on short/long call to just 1.

I'm not defending POTA - but really, you have to be an f'in moron if you actually get suckered into doing a POTA (when you don't want to).

ever hear of caller ID. further why even answer your phone if you don't know the number. further even if you answer on your day off and they ask you just tell them something like your in the middle of NY state hunting/camping whatever.

I may or may not have been called on this past Wed also. And I may or may not have been 10 miles off the jersey shore fishing.

POTA = non issue.

"Kind of Weird" translates as "SNAFU".

As for Jr. man pay, the company is only shooting itself in the foot there, because they can't crew the flights when there's no incentive to ever pick up the phone.

The East doesn't even get "Junior Manning" pay? (Wide-eyed shock) Nice contract you got there. REAL nice.

We don't have "junior manning" pay because we don't have "junior manning". What some may think of as junior manning is called POTA (priority of trip assignment). Like junior manning, when a trip opens up they can't cover, they start at the bottom and call all pilots asking if they would fly the trip. They are not required to do it. If you just tell them you are unavailable to fly, they will say ok thanks and move on. But the best way is, as Lear suggested, don't answer the phone! Scheduling is required to identify themselves when they call, they cannot block their number.

What amazes me is their are pilots that actually pick these trips up... :(

BTW, there are no FO reserves on the Airbus in CLT or PHL today...

Enjoy that while it lasts. I'm not being an ass when I say that and indeed having scheduling call everybody looking for volunteers would actually be pretty sweet..but...the West use to have about 4 crew schedulers on duty at any time and the East had what, thirty or forty? When scheduling thinks they may have a problem with coverage, they "red-flag" it in open time. Means you get something like 120% pay or some such thing. If there isn't enough notice for that, they "tag" a reserve coming in at the end of a trip if the reserve still has duty time left. If not, they could "tag" a line holder but they get an even larger premium for having their tip extended, like 150% or something like that. However, most people suddenly are fatigued when they get tagged (surprise!). Either way, the West system takes a heck of a lot fewer crew schedulers to manage each day. (Again, I'm not saying it's better or worse, just cheaper to run)

Like you, I'm always surprised at people who are willing to whore themselves out...especially when the West still has guys on furlough.

FWIW, PHX is almost out of reserve FO's today. Plenty of Captains.
