Did USAir and AWA furlough when they got together? No, they didn't, because it was a seamless merger with no hub closures. If there is a merger out there like that again, then there probably won't be furloughs. If two airlines merge that have hubs right next to each other, then there could be. But, if a merger causes a lot of hub closures or job loss, expect local politicians to get involved to try to save jobs, and the merger may not happen anyway. These days almost everyone needs to be happy with the deal, or it won't go through. Look at USAir trying to buy Delta. Wall St and Hedge funds were for it, and the politicians were against it (thanks to funding from labor). It was shot down quickly.

Bye Bye--General Lee

Well, lets see. They furloughed 1800 US pilots.

Why?

Because US AIR was packaged for a merger and it was easy doing it during their BK's.

Mergers and ALPA do not mix. Read Chapter 17 in Flying the Line VOl. 2. It is amazing how screwed up ALPA merger policy is and it is beyond me why nothing has been done to put something that does not guarantee arbitration. ALPA has been sued so many times its a joke. Good luck Delta with ALPA merger policy. What will happen to the DELTA guys still wanting to be on furlough?

Have you been eating retard sandwiches again? The General said this would go smoothly and there would be little disruptions to any involved.

entered in error:blush:

Why did you say "entered in error". You simply mentioned the law passed last month that requires all mergers to be under the protection of the Allegheny-Mohawk protections. I don't know much about the original Allegheny-Mohowk protections, but it looks like it provides for MUCH more than the integration of seniority lists. It looks like this law provides lots of protections for employees involved in an airline merger.

I think there is a protection that says you can't make less after the merger than before the merger (for a period of 3 years). So if a captain at airline A becomes a first officer at airline B, they must provide you an allowance to bring your new wages up to equal "a monthly average of the last 12 months immediately before the merger." I am still doing research on this topic so I could be wrong. Don't quote me =)

I know lots of CBAs already require te protections of the Allegheny-Mohowk provisions, so how did the TWA employee groups get so screwed?

The USair pilots where already furloughed prior to the merger with AWA correct? So after the merger they just stayed furloughed? I really dont see many furloughs if any, if there are mergers. It will take a few years to get the two companies merged into one company. By then the age 65 will be on the horizon and with the amount of retirements that will happen now since you have 2 major airline lists combined they will have to hire 2 years in advance just so they wont be short when the age 65 takes its toll. Slower hiring and advancement so management can see what will happen is a more realistic scenario, but where ever knows???????????

the Betty Ford clinic called, they need their drunk back.

Your almost as bad as Poconopilot:rolleyes: Do you take pride in that? You do bash PP for the very same things you post right?

as often as I can.

enjoy your furlough. although I think a furlough would be better than flying a -9 for NWA.

FWIW, you might be able to get a recommendation from Instructordude's friend who is flying for "FedEx" in a caravan out of PHX.

Good day.

I believe that is why the lawsuit is going on. ALPA offered the TWA pilots as a sacrifice to bring ALPA on property at AA. ALPA got their own pilots to give up their negotiated merger rights to make the whole thing go through. APA says they never agreed to join ALPA and ALPA was left with a screwed over pilot group and AA giving them the bird. Or thats the gist of the story as I have heard it.

Thank god I am sitting nice and cozy here in the regionals while all this blows over.

You guys are all probably about to get furloughed. No more flowbacks, so the real money will be made as regional jet captains.

I'd hate to be you guys, but as they say don't hate me because I'm beautiful. LOL
