Short Final...

While working as a controller at Ellsworth Approach Control in the 80's, I heard this exchange.

ATC: Western 474, Ellsworth Approach Control is utilizing a certain phase of the radar called circular polarization, which allows us to depict only the most severe areas of weather on the radar display.

[Long Pause...]

Western 474: Approach, say again, please.

[Without error, ATC repeated the alert, (which I had never heard before!)]

[Second Long Pause...]

Western 474: Approach, we don't know what's going on down there, but the co-pilot seems to think that somebody just circumsized a polar bear.

In the Cincinnati Ohio (KCVG) Area there is an intersection that you much cross at X altitude.

The ATC communications usually goes someting like this.

ATC: Delta1372 Cross DRESR at 12,000

My question is how can ATC see a Cross Dreser at 12,000?

Good ones FL420 and Magic! Glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read them as I would have spewed it all over my computer from laughing so much<now where is that smilie for falling down and laghing my a$$ off go?..lol>

Heard this going into Spokane the other day. A FedEx 727 and (FedEx feeder) Caravan were both inbound and talking to tower.

Empire: Tower Empire XXX 6 out on the visual 21

Tower: Empire XXX Spokane Tower following the mother ship on short final runway 21 cleared to land.

Empire: Cleared to land 21 behind the mother ship Empire XXX.

RDD Tower to C-172: "Traffic at your 12 o'clock, on final ahead of you, cleared to land, number 2."

C-172 Pilot to Tower: "Roger...got the bogey!"

Me, blindly on freq: "Gee Mav...you crack me up!"

Eric

Heard this over MGM the other day...

Acey XX: Montgomery Approach, what is the lake that we're flying over?
Approach: That's Lake Logan Martin, if you've got a cool million lying around you can get a nice house out there.
Acey XX: Oh, wow... thanks
Approach: No problem.
Anonymous transmission: You better find a better job than airline pilot to be able to afford that one.

Of course, there's always the obligatory pax brief on guard.

Ladies and gentlemen, from the flight deck we'd like to welcome you aboard Delta XXX [rambles on for 5 minutes] and beer and wine will be available for sa... oh, crap.

Heard about 10 years ago, several miles east of CMH......

Pilot (with thick accent)...Columbus Approach, Dirigible 1234

ATC...Aircraft calling Columbus, say again?

Pilot...Columbus Approach, this is Dirigible 1234

ATC...N1234, say again?

Pilot...This is Dirigible 1234

ATC...N1234. Say type aircraft?

Anonymous Voice...It's the Fuji Blimp, you a$$hole!
