I am starting my Instrument training and was wondering if anybody knew of a website or directory of people looking for a safety pilot to share hours with. I have done some google searches and came up with nothing.

Why do you need a safety pilot? People take safety waaay too seriously.

I hope you are kidding... He needs a safety pilot to look out the window for him so he can wear a view limiting device.

If you think people take safety 'waaay too seriously', then you most likely shouldn't be trying to get into aviation yourself. You should go find something else to do. Safety is every pilots responsibility and you have the wrong attitude.

You're right. I guess I need a safety pilot to move the empty beer cans out from behind the rudder pedals.

good call Lequip

If your talking to me its $45, flight or ground... We need to come up as an industry.

I don't mean to stir the pot up too much here... but I must tell you that the reason many CFIs will fly for free (or on the cheap) is simple economics. Its supply & demand. There are LOTS and LOTS of CFIs out there with plenty of free time. Supply usually outwieghs demand. Therefore the price is low. Simple economics.

If I went to my local flight school, and tried to book a CFI, but they were all booked months in advance, then the price would be much higher I assure you.

The problem is we have all these damn CFI factories out there making cookie cutter CFIs by the dozen. If it wasn't so easy to become a CFI -- and if a pilot job didn't require the obligatory 'stop' as a CFI first -- the pay would be better. And the CFIs would be better too I suspect!
