MD-11 Junior Man will be a new hire in the October '05 Class
Airbus Junior Man see aforementioned MD-11 guess
727 Captain (seniority isn't everthing, eh?) let's go with August '02 Class
(I'm torn, is it possible that the spring of '04 will have a shot, but I think the wide-body spots are more tempting)
Widebody -- MEM -- will be much later than 1996 -- there will be a Junior Captain from 1998.....

As for the bid: 148 Wide-Body Captains; and let's put Paris back on the map
new hires (beginning in the October class, straight to the -11 & Bus after the bid is dispersed next week)

I just thought that when we were climbing out of FL 40 and setting the altimeter to 29.92, we were flying international. I've never seen this in the U.S. When we came back to SJU, we had to go through customs and immigration to enter the U.S. I thought that was international flying. Our flight ops were all flag operations rather than domestic according to our flight manual and ops specs.

I think that new hire seat availability is based on unfilled vacancies from the most recent bid. But hey, I might be wrong.
Anyway, with that being said, we would have to have right seat widebody bids go unfilled for them to be available to new hires. I just can't see that happening.

What so hard.........

about flying INTL? It just like any other type of flying, sound judgement, some bookwork, learn the in and outs, some Spanglish/Fringlish/Chinglish and your set. I flew all over the world on by reading a few pamphlets and hoping our Jepp dispatch guru REALLY understood that the FSU customs folks REALLY wanted to fine us 2 billion rubles for some obscure reason. Geezz, some of ya are making it out to be some sorta rubiks cube knowledge comprehendable to only a the exhualted few. My favorite these days is not that far: going to MMUN/Cancun on a weekend. Uncomprehendable controllers, about every 6th call answered, the uninitiated thinking a "low fuel" whine will get them ahead of the line (a Condor favorite) only to find them getting cleared to Cozumel. Fuzzy hold instructions and me saying "...good luck ya'll.." after we finally get cleared. Makes ya wish you were flying into Kai Tak when the winds were about 220/30G40 heading down the IGS 13.....ahhhhhh the good old days.........

Great choices coming for some guys...JR captain (TonyC), Widebody FO (like you) or hang out and get senior in the 727 (Jethro). I'd be interested in hearing everyone's take....

Bones: Yes, that post could be taken the wrong way! What I meant to say was that I hope that there will be some folks junior to me going to the Bus, as opposed to a bunch of folks senior to me.

Wow, that sounds a lot better.

Anyway, I prefer to fly domestic, shorter trips as opposed to the longer, international trips that are mostly -11 trips. I realize that the 11 does a lot of domestic work as well, but the Bus seems to be the replacement for the Boeing, so I figured the flying would be similar to what I am doing now.

Living in the planet means that I try to do out and backs and after taking a look at the bidpacks for the last few months it looked like the Bus had a fairly large number of those kind of trips. I won't be able to hold any of them for a while, but if some folks junior to me are able to hold it this time around (I am pretty close to the bottom on the current posting) my life will get better much more quickly. Keeping my fingers crossed.

We'll see what happens. Thanks for taking it easy on me (way too kind!) for my poorly worded post and if I was able to offer any help in your job hunt you are certainly welcome.

Ok, just adding on to what we already know but the bid should be out any day now.

Just talked to an ANC FO who bid MEM FO on the last bid but has since changed his mind and wants to stay in ANC. Long story short his 'transfer' to MEM has been delayed until the end of the OCT bid month so he can make the change and be awarded an ANC FO seat again.

All that means is that the up coming bid will come out, close and the results POSTED by the end of OCT.

Are you guys in the dark on the addition of new aircraft? If so it sounds just like a bureaucratic government organization. Leadership holding onto information with an iron grip and doling it out like crumbs to a starving man.

On the flip side, I guess there is no really good reason to spread info on the addition of new aircraft. It is in the SEC filings. But I would think it would help with pilot recruitment and overall employee enthusiasm. Is that allowed there?

The "fleet plan" is published and updated for every seat bid. I don't believe anything about the fleet plan is kept secret, but it is subject to constant change because of various factors: companies not going bankrupt, domicile changes, beuraucratic chaos behind the scenes. . .

You're still in training....you are supposed to be in the "I am happy to be here mode...I hope I can get a right seat job real soon." Capt in 2.3 years? Doubtful....those hired just before the Postal contract saw Capt in 4.5.....even with hiring stilted before 911, those guys were upgrading about as fast as their bids could carry them, starting with the MOAB in Jan 2001 of 243 WB captains, 88 727 Cap....(that's no typo).....The junior person on property got an Airbus MEM the second week of training with a training date 13 mos out. The lack of hiring after 911 was probably the only thing that kept the sims from lighting on fire from continuous use combustion. Is it possible we could grow faster than that? IMO not likely...but I would like it.

Well here's another 2 cents for the bids...From all of the BI briefs we got, they are saying some 150+ Widebody captain spots, up to some 200+ The big deal is they haven't decided if they want to break it up into two smaller bids.

As for the captain thing, the rumor in the schoolhouse is the junior captain will be just over 3 yrs...a FedEx record!

Your captain in 2.3 may hold up still!

You're right, the two to three year captain plan is doubtful. That post was more for effect anyway, to underscore how quickly it seems guys can move up around here. At any rate, I'm not sure how cool it would be to try for Capt that quick - you'd be sucking hind *$* for a LOOOONG time no matter what airframe you're in.
Realistically, our class was told we'd be likely to hold widebody F/O in this bid and I think that's what most of the guys are trying to do. But, if in fact we can hold those seats, training is still probably 10-12 months away. Damn, looks like I've got to go study those stabilizers after all.... Assuming I pass my orals this weekend.

I'm making the move early next year - you'll have to show me where all the good riding around here is.
