Talked with KD today. She offered 727 Mem starting 31JUL. She said there will be 26 in the class...half MD 11 and half 727 (not saying which seat to be filled on the 727). I gladly accepted. I interviewed Jan 3/4. My fingers are pruned and it's time to dry off. See ya'll on property.

Sorry Malter, July 31 class, I interviewed Jan 3,4 then updated medical and drug test May 22.I did'nt ask about class size and she did'nt volunteer any extra information. I was never offered anything but the 727 Memphis base. I was somewhat surprised not to be offered MD 11 as my last job was 747 with EFIS/FMS (not quite the glass of the MD 11 but similar flying). Hope this helps...best of luck.
Thanks for the update. 747 with glass!? That is surprising you weren't offerred the MD-11. Congratulations again. See you there!

Back when I was hired in Aug/Sep 01 I had offers but no class from FedEx and Jetblue.

FedEx was "cricket cricket...." Dead silence. No info. It sucked.

JetBlue was a "Blue note" about every two weeks. Periodic calls from Dean Melonas and some of the recruiting staff. (I understand now they have a sponsor who keeps you in the loop....) I got more correspondence from JB the five months I was waiting for a class than I did the first 2 years I was a line pilot at FedEx.

I obviously voted for FedEx anyway, but my point is there are better ways to handle potential employees than the way FDX and SWA seem to do it. Perhaps a previous poolie who ends up in the training department one day can spearhead a way to improve the process.

For those waiting for FDX...I will say it was worth the wait. Its a great company, great crew force, and I'm glad to be here. I remember, however, the great silence on the phone and I wasn't really even in the pool...just waiting on a firm class date. You guys keep the faith...

so most people like MEM instead of the other bases? Id think ANC would be cool

A lot of people like Memphis because it is an easy commute. Very few actually want to live there. And yes, ANC is cool. Just dead headed to EWR (1st class...cool) then operated to Paris (49 hour layover...way cool) and now I'm sitting in New Delhi (NOT cool). It is an adventure.

Albie gets my comments and does a good job of providing his well reasoned info.

I personally think the "information blackout" is another part of the test. If you give up now they know you would just go go with whoever held your hand the best during the process. Not a real FedEx diehard.

He also knows I mean no disrespect to the nuggets. Just making some observations and hoping for some conversation.

Was it that long ago that this place was populated with an 'unofficial' Southwest poolee list right alongside the 'unofficial' FedEx one? I wasn't on either, but I got the impression that no one on either list had a clue as to what was really going on. Sounds like the UPS deal is even more confusing. So my point is Sarge, what exactly is your point?

Good question!! He has some sort of issue going on or he wouldn't be adding to this thread.

JT and Jumbo Pilot,
I'm with you on the pain level, 10 years of heavy time along with 2+ years of 73 time. Interviewed end of Jan, not sure what it takes to get the magical call. Question, are any of you guys who got a class date recently still in the Guard or Reserves? I know several people who got hired in the past and then took Mil leave right away. I'm sure the company was not too keen on that when they are short pilots. I hope that isn't affecting the rest of the current military guys swimming in the pool. Just a thought. Congrats to everybody with class dates, hope to join ya soon.

I was an MD11 captain when I came here - and I thank God I got some time on the panel first. This place takes some getting used to, and my stress level was high enough already.

After about 6 months I was ready to go back to the front seats - but it took two and a half more years!

Does anyone have an accurate number for the folks swimming in the purple pool? If so, is this number after the current classes or before?
Second: Any idea when the pool will be dry or near the bottom?

I was told by KD that there are approximately 300-350 in the pool as of about a month ago. She stated that the goal is to empty the pool by December.

When was the last group interviewed and put in the pool?

Just wondering where I sit in that 300-350.

Future FedEx 727 class dates

While I was wandering around the Falcon building today looking for the classroom for my warmup, I found a spreadsheet pinned up in the training hallway with the future 727 classes.

Here goes:

Class Gnd School
Number Start Date Capt F/O S/O
07-03 19 Jul 06 4 6 0
07-04 26 Jul 06 4 6 0
07-05 16 Aug 06 4 6 16
07-06 23 Aug 06 4 6 14
07-08 13 Sep 06 5 5 16
07-09 20 Sep 06 2 8 14
07-10 11 Oct 06 1 9 16
07-11 18 Oct 06 1 9 14
07-12 8 Nov 06 0 10 16

07-18 31 Jan 07 0 10 16
07-19 7 Feb 07 0 10 14

Realize that those are ground school start dates, not Basic Indoc. BI would be about 2 weeks earlier, give or take.

(That chart looked good when I typed it, but now the formatting is messed up... sorry)

Sluggo, Thanks for the info.

If you overlay the MOAB's training letter results over those class sizes you come up with the following vacancies per class...

Systems Class Date, FO New Hires, SO New Hires
16 Aug, 0, 16
23 Aug, 0, 14
13 Sep, 3, 16
20 Sep, 8, 14
11 Oct, 8, 16
18 Oct, 9, 14
8 Nov, 10, 16
15 Nov, 10, 14
6 Dec, 2, 16
13 Dec, 0, 14
3 Jan, 0, 16
10 Jan, 0, 14
31 Jan, 0, 16
7 Feb, 3, 14

Those would also align with the last memo saying 727 SO classes to start in August with FO openings in September.

Just curious....

Are there any openings for SFS right now? Are those posted somewhere or are they always looking for volunteers....

Thanks!

From what I've heard, there are almost always openings in Subic. If that's what you want, and will commit to a 2-year adventure, talk to your sponser, they should be able to get you right in.

Thanks for the quality intel Nugget. Are you a Jan guy? Any idea how many are non-MD 11 Jan poolies? Trying to guesstimate my class.......

He did call about 4-6 weeks ago, and they said that everyone getting a call at that time was hand picked. I guess I will ask about it when they call with a class date:confused: .

With this new training schedule, will they start filling the classes right away? In other words, will they start calling us now even if the class doesn't start until Sept. or Oct.? Or do they usually wait until 2-4 weeks prior to the class to actually make the calls??

Thanks for the info!

Late Jan here as well...no call yet.

That's because they hate you. Yeah, that's right I said it. I overheard it in the AOC...."Don't call Rusty Nail. He cheats at cards and drinks too much!"

See you here soon pal.

Alright. Let's get organized. I'd like to try and figure out when I'm going to class. I'm sure some of the other people on here would like to know when they are going as well. If we can gather the appropriate info and using the above provided list of class dates, we should be able to come pretty close. Questions we need answers to:

What month was interview/How many selected from your interview group?
(Example:
2/14 3 - 1 pulled for 6/10 MD11 class. 2 remain in pool)

How many TOTAL for each month? (Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, etc.)
When was the first person interivewed that went into the current pool? The last (April?)??
How many pulled so far for MD11, A300 and the July 31 class?

I'm bored. Thought this might work.

I interviewed Jan 17/18. I don't know who else from our group is in the pool with me. I know of at least 3 others.

I was told by a friend that I should expect an August class. Don't know which one, but that's all I have.

I have another friend who interviewed in March. I am not sure what dates, around the middle. He is expecting a late September or early October class.

Enjoy the pool while you can. Soon you will be swimming under the 727 fire hose!

30-31 Jan. 5 put in the pool, 1 already on land in an MD-11 class. Let us know when you come up with a reasonable guess. I'm thinking Sep for me. I wish it were earlier, Later

25-26 Jan

I THINK 4 out of 6 in the morning and 5 out of 6 in the afternoon made it. I am not sure if any have gone to ANC. There were some in my group who had heavy military time.

I know there were also 2 groups of 6 who were interviewing on 24-25 of Jan, but I am not sure how it turned out for them. I have no idea how many total interviewed that week, but I think it was a lot!

I updated my drug test in late May (120 days). Jumping every time my phone rings and hoping for an Aug. class date (BUT happy to be in the pool no matter what). I'll volunteer for SFS when the time comes.

From reading here and talking to friends, I think Jan 3/4 is the top of the list as far as the pool goes, but again I may be way off.
Looking forward to buying you all a round in MEM!

Thanks!
XJGuy

PS.... How can we start a pool roster like the old Southwest and FedEx list on Flightinfo??????

Feb 8/9 here. Only one group those two days. 7 sim checked, 7 made it. 7 interviewed, 7 made it. One guy pulled for the MD-11.

Poolie Data

Quiet Flight --

Good idea!

[Feb. 6/7] There was one interview group on that Monday and we went six for six. One guy received a class date (Jun. 19), so far and the rest of us are floating patiently.

Thanks...A'che

15-16 Mar, 11 made it passed the sim, the 5 from our group made it to the pool (1 got MD so 4 in the pool now) and as far as I know the other group of 6 are in the pool (not confirmed).

Next.....

Interviewed 2/20-21. 12 sim - 12 passed. Of my group of 6 all passed interview. 2 in MD11/ 1 in Airbus for Subic (he was offered choice of MD11 or Airbus in Subic). 3 in pool. Not sure about the other 6.

Still waiting for the drug test call. Have all you March guys gotten called? Worried I'm being overlooked by mistake.
