As a note of hope (or of despair, depending on how you look at it) I was one of the 60+ poolies in the 14 month club beginning 2002; no doubt you guys will get on the property sooner than we did, but be prepared to float. IMHO, you have every reason to believe you're in, just keep your head above water. I'll pass my floaties on to whomever wants them, they worked well....

...please FedEx them to me!

Hey Guys,

I'm still in the school house and the latest rumor I heard was that the poolies will start drying off in April. 2 -3 months of 70 guys and then back to 30ish/month for a few years. Remember, just a rumor but one from a management type. Good luck guys.

When did you do your meet and greet?

I did the M&G late July early August 2005. My sponsor was still on probation. I had 4 on-line recs: my sponsor (a new hire F/E), a 72 F/O on 2nd year pay, an MD11 F/O on about 5th year pay, and a guy in 72 CA school now but was a BUS F/O prior. My sponsor checked on my status a few times and the 72 F/O checked too. The guy in CA school now, showed up during my M&G to throw his verbal support. I'm not sure if he went by the ACPs office at all after that. All of them were sponsoring someone different at the same time. I had flown with all of them in my reserve unit. I got the e-mail and snail mail address of the ACP I met and sent him a Christmas card as well as e-mailed him about once every other month with a short but direct note reaffirming my desire to fly purple tails. I'm not sure what threw me over the fence for a call from K.D. My hours are average for a KC-135 guy with about 350 hours of current GA time. Another buddy just interviewed at the very end of Feb and is still waiting to hear. He said all went well. He is a furloughed legacy guy but has no interest in going back. His M&G was March 2005 and his sponor was the 72 F/O I mentioned above. He met a different ACP than I did. I hope all the above keyboard diarrhea gives you some help. My attitude was gentle persistence. I'll let you know how the interview goes in a few weeks. Time to get in the books again...

yesterday in class...

Our Airbus line pilot/instructor said they are being told to expect around 60 new hires to go directly to the right seat of the bus and around 90 new hires to go directly to the right seat of the MD.

Impressive numbers!

Now lets see it happen.

Thanks Goose....

Did they happen to mention a timeframe? Or whether we will all go to class together and then split off for aircraft specific? Or whether they will assign the aircraft/domicile prior to class?

Thanks, Keeping Fingers crossed and glad that my floaties aren't leaking...

TSD

nope

No other info.

If I were to guess - I keep hearing talk about a couple of big months of hiring coming up followed by normal hiring. I would imagine the hiring and the bid are all delayed until all the bugs are tweeked out of the "direct to the wide right seats" program. I think the flood gates will open in April and there will be a ton of guys heading to the right of the bus and MD. There will probably be whole classes heading straight to a particular aircraft.

That is a lot of guessing on my part. See you all on the property soon.

Quick question to all:
Does anyone know how long the meet and greets @ FedEx were suspended. Did the line get emptied or is the expected wait from meet and greet to interview still very long?
Thank you. FishAlaska

Did the M&G 1st week of Sep. My sponsor, 15 yr captain, checks w/ his ACP once a month. I'm a Legacy furlough. Could be why I'm still waiting.

Keeping my fingers crossed!

Fish: I was told that the meet and greets were full through April. Got to call back in mid April (17th) for May/June slots. I suspect they will go quickly like the first wave did.

my 2 cents

I would make the journey in "in person" and get the appointment if you want to ensure the meet and greet is scheduled....the phone rang off the hook the day I was over there.

Is the ANC M&G because his sponsor's in ANC, or is the RCP in ANC meeting guys from MEM?

Anybody else M&G in ANC? What was your timeframe for an interview?

M&g

Not sure of the specifics. He just said that they were full in MEM and heading to ANC to do it. Will have to get the info from him.

Does anyone else think that this process is getting out of hand?

With candidates emailing ACP's, sending Xmas Cards, and flying to Anchorage to schedule a "pre interview".....it is starting to sound like Plato at Delta...when he used to be stalked by pilots when he went to his car in the parking lot.

I understand the huge volume of candidates and the relatively small number of slots....but there has to be a better way.

I for one am frustrated. I tried unsucessfully to get the guy I'm sponsoring a M&G. And I find out that I have a trip assigned during next months "window" of opportinity.

Can anyone explain to me how you schedule a M&G for May when the day alloted to schedule occurs the morning that the Capt bid is released (at noon) and a day prior to the F/O release.

How can you even know when you will be available to be present?

Speaking of window...since I couldn't get through on the phone...did anyone actually get a M&G scheduled by telephone that day?

Is this gonna turn into getting concert tickets..where guys are going to get in line a week prior...set up a tent...and wait for the window to open?

I agree, echopapa. This sucks. And when it does open up on Apr 17, is it first come first serve? By phone or in person? Or will dudes that have ACP bros already have a secret sign-up sheet that gets their guys appointments at 0701 on the 17th?

I can understand the need to keep the meet and greets at a minimum- otherwise, that is ALL our ACP's would do. However, it seems that once again, some guys got favors and got appointments in advance of the official window, and the rest of us were left out in the cold.

But in other news.... Jack is supposed to retire this summer. Perhaps it will change after that? But at the pace they are going, they should have all the 2006 guys already lined up before he leaves. Part of his plan, probably.

Wish I could get my guy into "Jack's Squadron."

I interviewed 6 weeks ago tomorrow. Still not a peep!! Scratching my eyes out. The rest of my group heard at the 5 week mark (last tues?). This sux.

Q

Can't get a meet and greet scheduled? Check e-bay. Word is they are now going to the highest bidder.

This process is dumb.

it is starting to sound like Plato at Delta...

If I ever see ol' Plato, I'm gonna kiss him on the mouth.

If he hadn't turned me down after Phase 3 in 1999 I'd be stacking lumber at Home Depot today.

He told me I could never reapply. I'll take him at his word....

My M&G was in ANC January 2005 because my sponsor is a MD11 F/O based there. Got called for my FedEx interview late February 2006, and interviewed March 7-8th, 2006.

Its been a long process, but well worth it, as I am awaiting results...

Same thing happened to me in Feb. of 2001. I had three strong recommendations and was turned down. I was soooooo deflated.

If hired I would have left a major cargo outfit and would not have finished ground school at big D without a pink slip.

Who says things don't happen for a reason.

congratulations!

What a HUGE relief it is to get the letter - congrats. I hope you drank many beers in celebration. Now the wait... When I was in the pool (just post Sept 11th) I got the same letter that said - don't call us, we'll call you. I waited and waited and it was starting to drive me nuts. I cracked and called. I got to speak with KD and she was MOST HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY. She put me at ease and said to relax, we all have jobs, it is simply a matter of when the bean counters release training classes.

That was 4-1/2 years ago. In the very near future, you will be on the inside after all the hard work.

Relax and have a beer!

Me, too, Huck. Big Red told me no in the summer of 2001..... thank god.... or I'd be working in the lumber department at Home Depot with you.
