What's up fellow poolies? What's up Mr. Ryder? Kim D.? Beverly? When are you going to call US?

Has anyone heard anything about the april bid results?

:D

The bid results came out today. There were 50 second officer vacancies on the 727. I'm not really sure when the new hire classes will start up but the training list should be out in a week or so. Another interesting note, there was an article on our website talking about the 757's replacing the 727's. I guess Boeing is offering a pretty good deal to FedEx for them. The article didn't say that it was a done deal but it does give some validity to the rumor that has been floating around. I'm not really sure when we would get them if we will get them at all. Going from a three man aircraft to a two man aircraft certainly won't help the hiring situation but it would be cool to have new hires going to the right seat of the 757 someday. Well, add that to the other list of rumors floating around and who knows, maybe one of them might actually come true. Hang in there poolies.

That sounds great!!!!

50 vacancies?? When the training department posts the "training list" are new hires included on that list? OR.....is HR solely responsible for the new hire classes?

Thanks for the info.

:)

Unfortunately, the new hire classes do not show up on the training lists until sometime during indoc. I wish I could give you an idea of when classes will begin but I haven't heard anything in regards to that. My guess would be in the next few months to begin to replace the second officers that are going to other seats but that is only a guess. Keep treading water and you guys will be over here before you know it.

training soon

For all you poolies, rest assured, you will start class very soon. This is strictly my opinion, but I think it is a very educated guess. The hiring department has been on freeze for some time and I think they were really waiting to see how this bid shook out. Now that the results are out, and people are moving up, there are obviously vacancies in the back of the 727. The training list shows about 50, but here is a little more info... The highest percentage of guard/reserve guys can be found in the back seat. These guys (and gals) are more recently out of the military and a lot are using the guard/reserve as a financial bridge into the civilian economy. That being said, we have had a TON of Second Officers called up to duty and there are more going. I have no idea on the total number, but one thing is for certain - when I check my reserve leveling (where I am in relation to total dudes sitting reserve for that block) I have notice that there are significantly less Second Officers to carry the load.

What does all this mean? Training and advancement as well as good ole Sadam will have you on the property in no time. Good luck.

Are those 50 vacancies there now, or does that mean there will be 50 vacancies when the upgrading FE's move out? Sometime ago I think somebody posted there were about 23 holes to fill in the 727 S/O position NOW.

Any news beats no news:)

good question

Those 50 openings are probably not all right now. It is on the bid posting which shows everyone in their projected or bid awarded seat. How many seats open right now is unknown (by me at least), but like I said above, I would expect classes to start soon.

Goose17

They will have to fill the s/o positions first, because they can't pull current s/o's out of their seats for training until their replacements are online. This pattern continues up the chain, which is why the biggest aircraft/left seat is always the shortest on staffing. Attrition will also require hiring this year, so the number hired will be more than 50.

Clarification

Profile,

Just a question to clarify what you wrote. When you say,
...so the number hired will be more than 50.
did you mean thats the number that will be trained. I ask because there are more than 50 hired in the pool.

any news is good news

For all of you FedEx line guys, any news for us (speculation or not) is nice to hear.. Thank you for your contributions...

NEWS IS NICE:D

Another bit of info

Flew with someone in training department. He said that they were "looking for about 150 -200 new hires next year, but that the number had not been settled on"

Take that for what it is worth. I don't know that the specific number is really worth focusing on, but the flavor of the comment is consistent with getting guys on the property.

I'll try to swing by KD office Friday and get gouge if available.

Just an little info I found interesting:

The LAX MD-11 FOs went more junior on this bid than any MEM FOs. I think the most junior guy awarded the MD11 FO at LAX has been on property about 18 months or so.

You're correct Spur. I was the second to the bottom guy for LAX FO and I was a July of 2001 new hire. The bottom guy was also in my new hire class. I was very surprised hold anything on this bid. I didn't look to see how junior ANC FO went but I heard it was into the 4000 series seniority numbers.

NightFlyer

LAX and ANC MD11 F/O are both about the same as right seat in the Boeing. And they're all about where ANC was by itself last year... in other words, I was 170 something away from ANC last year, and I'm about 170 away from all three now.

But as long as the company keeps firing 3 captains per month you have a good chance on the next bid! ;)

Thanks for the info guys! Anyone heard how many of the poolies have been recalled?

My first post on here, so please be kind to my ignorance. Was wondering how low the seniority number went for Subic F/O? Thanks for any info...

Goose 17,
It was good to talk to you the other night in MKE. I don't know if you could tell, but we beat you to ORD that night. We were the CRJ holding short of your runway and we were taxing behind you to the gate. Can't wait to go to training.

crazy night

Good chatting with you too.

That was a crazy night. We were both on ground hold from hell.

Did you say taxiing "behind you" to the gate? Doesn't sound like you beat us after all!

; )

See you on the line SOON!

Lowest number to go to the PI was 3937 out of 4280

Goose17

Can anyone estimate how long Pilot #3937 has been on the property? I'm also wondering how often equipment bids typically occur. Thanks.

3937

Just about 2 years I would guess.

The equipment bid varies. Depends on company requirements. From what I can gather it seems to happen about once a year +/-.

questions

Could someone explain the 50 727 so slots?? Do they try and fill them internally (over 60 guys)? Then go to the pool... Or, does this mean 50 from the pool?

Thanks

PI

How do guys like the P.I. /QOL? I am sure it looks allot different than 10 yrs ago when I took a USN sponsored cruise there.

FDX Hiring

You guys have to remember that in addition to the (50) 727 S/O slots that were left open in the bid, that the company is also looking at the following Age 60 retirements that are coming up over the near future:

2003: 83
2004: 76
2005: 128
2006: 162
2007: 170
2008: 155

The other unfortunate (this depends on where you are on the seniority list) statistic is that usually an equal number of medical retirements occur along with the Age 60's. Since FDX doesn't like to hire guys directly into the right seat, it seems they will have to start "priming the pump" soon to keep up with the attrition that will be coming in the future.

Another unknown is how many senior captains will jump ship prior to the contract negotiations beginning in 2004.

I hope you guys in the pool keep your head up. See you in the AOC soon!!

Spoke to a buddy of mine who is on the Bus the other day. He knew of at least four guys in the pool that had been activated. His hunch was also that there had to be even more called up he didn't know about. Fedex has about 150 right now on active duty.

No one can verify if the 50 slots on the panel are going to be absorbed if all of the 727-100's get parked (rumor as far as I know) or not.

My calculations put the pool in the very low 50's or even the 40's. Still holding out hope it won't be much longer!!!

Tread on poolies...
