The current hiring activity is (thank God!) mostly people with 135 or preferably 121 experience. It makes a lot of sense to call people who put in apps 1-2 years ago to see if they might like an interview, because they might have attained the desired level of experience in that time. They are not calling you thinking you still have 600/100. They are calling hoping you have maybe 2000/1400 with turbine time which you got at an extremely sh!tty regional or charter job you would like to leave.

one of my buddies runs a flight school and he got a call from expressjet. Dawn told him that he would fly down the next day for an interview. He said that he couldn't do it on such short notice and she got agitated with him. I guess his cellphone dropped the call. She called him back and told him he should get a new cellphone... that's when he told her to stick it and that he'd rather keep his current job at mcdonalds because at least there he gets paid enough to have a cellphone compared to express's sh!tty pay, and so on. This was back in the spring of '04. Get this. they actually called him back a week or so ago for an interview! Holy crap, that's the kind of sh!t that makes me laugh hard. He has a VERY middle eastern sounding name, maybe its really George Bush calling trying to get him on a plane to cuba.

Ha, you've got to be talking about Mous. I think he actually told me that story

Mous has to be righ about the most stupid guy there is, if not he's the second. Not for turning down a job, but for having that attitude, you never know when you gonna run into someone.

Never pee into the wind.....

Your loss! I couldnt think of a better place to be right now. Xjet might have had some issues with getting phone calls set up with everyone but they are getting back on track dawn is no longer doing the interviews so relax. Good luck to all those who are trying to get on here, it really is a good place.

Express Jet is a great place to be and a great company. The problem people have is not with the company itself is was/is the hiring process headed by Dawn.
I interviewed at XJT back in July of 04 along with 23 other people. I remember Dawn asking about 5 or so people to leave because they sent up 3 resume's instead of 2. BIG DEAL. I ran into XJT's Chief Pilot at Flight Safety (STL) and he said the hiring process has now change to a different format. I understand they're not doing the whole interview in front of the entire group.
I'm definitely not bashing XJT! Super company with a decent contract; but dawn was very unprofessional during phone conversations with numbers people and during the interview process.

Keep applying, XJT is among the top Regionals.

Sure, the pay is as bad at Expressjet as it is at other regionals and upgrade probably takes a few years, but the equipment is great (I'm told the XR is a great performer) and you start on a jet vs. an archaic prop like you would at some other regionals.

Oh God, another one with SJS.

I think that's funny. Good for him....someone with ba!!s which is more than I can say for 98% of us.

Yes, you are right. Mous is probably the most stupid guy there, that is, if you call stupid...

Receiving a phone call from Dawn demanding, almost threatening that you fly down for an interview in 2 days otherwise your name with be taken off the list of potential interviews.

The guy actually owns his own flight school and manages another family owned business, so he simply was not able on 2 days notice to interview nor did he feel like dealing with the blatant disrepect that this lady had. Other people, including myself, probably would have bent over backwards because I would have been desperate for a job. He on the other hand, has a good job and loves dealing with the GA side of aviation and not the BS of some lady who thinks she can talk to people like they're dirt. Remember, not everyone aspires to be the airline pilot, there are plenty of other sides of aviation that are just as good.

That lady was a pain in the rear. I got called for an interview date and accepted it. A week later I call back to get my travel info. She says that that date is full, and I won't be interviewing then, despite having assigned it to me 7 days earlier. I get slid another months back. Would've cost me 40 seniority numbers. Then the arrogance as she trots around like a queen asking questions she doesn't know the answer to, it was annoying. But I'm not bitter.

The word around town is that the guard has changed in the HR department. When I interviewed in October, DD was still running the show, but she didn't interview me. She didn't interview anyone. It was very non-threatning. It was a pleasant experience.

Are they still doing group interviews? I thought that was a pretty stupid thing to do, have 20+ guys in the room and ask each one a question.

FC.

When I interviewed, the only thing you did as a group was the company intro and a just-for-fun company info Q&A session. Everyone was then told to wait and called one at a time for the interviews. There were 3 rooms, 2 rooms with a line pilot asking tech stuff and 1 room with HR and a management pilot asking HR type stuff. Straight forward and they let you know within 5 minutes if you're hired or not.

As for everyone bitching about getting sent home over paperwork. It was an exercise to see if you could follow directions. Believe it or not, that's kind of a big part of this job.

I also see that our contracts are not all that different.

For example....You guys get another dollar or 2 an hour first year, but you're spending your time sitting ready or on reserve for the first third of it while many of our guys are getting 85+ hrs of credit with lines. Things seem to even out on most fronts. Pay is one.

T-hawk
Your kidding right?

See, T-Hawk was only comparing rates. He didn't mention that his rates were for a 70-seater and ours for a 50-seater.

If he is so happy with his job, wy did he bother to apply in the first place?
Also, when someone from HR calls you and is mean to you, doesn't mean they are bad people or the company is bad, maybe they are tsting your character, see how you react.
I talked to DD when I was in training and she was a very nice lady.

So I stand by my opinion, your friend is pretty stupid.

I just got called for an interview at xpressjet. OMG. The last time I had my stuff in there was over 2 years ago.

The girl asked if I was still interested in a pilot position and, I said, "from 2 years ago? You got to be kidding me." She replied,"We just got around to your resume." I politely declined.

I can't believe they are 2 years behind in resumes. Anyone else have this happen? Are they that desperate?

They called you they must be that desperate.

I can't say he's albert einstein but, to answer your question, I believe his app went in with no response; henceforth, he committed to the flight school route.

When someone tries to kick you in the nuts and then proceeds to offer you a job, even if you applied out of your own free will, I think you may see it a different way. Otherwise the cycle of abuse will continue (She hits me because she loves me/ wants to see what I'm made out of). Very similar to an abusive personal relationship that continues due to lower self esteem/lack of options.

What the heck are you talking about? There are a lot (more acurately WERE a lot, since most still aren't hiring) of majors that used a confrontational type attitude in their interview process. That definately isn't abuse. It's just a technique. Lots of companies use it. But, back to the point...

All this Dawn bashing is idiotic. For one thing, she's one of the nicest people I know. We all have bad days and we all have some people that we don't click with. But to come on an internet board and trash talk someone because of one bad experience from behind a screen name... Please..... For a second thing, she's not even working for the company now. She's selling real estate. And is a lot more relaxed and happy now than ever. (And just to note, she was waaaaaaaaaay nicer to people than Dresser ever was back in the day...)

Finally, how did your buddy feel after he went off at her and over Express? Did it make him feel better? Did he feel like a big man? If so, I feel for him. He's got a lot bigger issues than a job if he gets off belittling people and adding to their bad day...

Although I'll bet money that the incident really happenned like this:
Dawn: we have an opening tomorrow, would you like to come in?
Him: no ma'am, I can't make that day, it's too soon.
Dawn: okay then, the next opening we have is a month or two away.
Him: Hmmm.... Well, I'm not really interested in XJet at this time. Thanks.
And that was the end of the call. I'll further bet that the story got exagerated into "this buddy of mine told them to F*ck off... blah blah blah... Just my guess...

Its not dawn bashing, its a confrontational type attitude (as you put it).:)

You are 100% right, I really an not trying to "trash talk", I really thought the story was wildly bizarre and It made me laugh hard when I heard it. I apologize if I came off any other way. I'm sure she's smurf-tastic.

This sounds like a question for people who interntionally try to use a "confrontational type attitude in their interview process" :)

You're probably right on, but his story makes for a more amusing reference!

I really don't want to bash your friend on an anonymous board, I think we should all agree that she's a girl who had a big job to do and she did the best she could. I would not want to did through stacks of thousands of resumes every day and then have to call people who wouldn't accept my selection tactics.

I don't get it. Why would anyone act like a duck? Is this a reference to amazing 80s flick Howard the Duck? The ocar board must have been smoking crack that year to not recognize the pure genius.

the techniques i use to get my ol lady to fetch me a hot meal weren't abuse either, lots of people use the left powerjab technique. That definitely isn't abuse. It's just a technique.

(this post is even more sarcasm laden than my other ones)

Did anybody who got called to fax their stuff in last Wed (6/22/05) hear anything good yet? I haven't heard a thing except a few people I know got the no go letter....

What's the deal with 600TT? Is it a way for them to allow their interns in after putting some time in the office? I've applied every couple of years since 2001 and never got a call back till just this month.

Sounds like Xjet is pretty darn desperate for pilots, calling the same people over and over, years later.

In our dreams! If regionals were desperate for pilots then my pay check wouldn't be so pathetic and my FO's wouldn't be packing up leftover salami/cheese snacks for the overnight.
