Did'nt we just have a downturn? I think he needs to check his calender, we're not due for another 7.5 years.

Its hard to argue that 100_ oil and a recession isn't another downturn. The difference is labor has nothing more to give, and 100 dollar+ oil means even a tiny percent of pissed off labor (pilots) can bring any company to its knees in a heartbeat.

This "downturn" may mean smaller raises, but that's it. They want more cuts, they can take it out of executive compensation and cut RJ flying. Labor has already given at the office.

WORD!!!

You can all make your jokes about Doug, but he is one smart cookie. Both East/West pilot's should also thank their lucky star's, as without the merger.....IMO...US would be history....and AmericaWest would be where F9 is today (which is on the edge), or in BK.

You lose all credibility when you make statements like the above. If he wa such a "smart cookie" as you state, why is it he looked like such a bafoon testifying in front of capital hill compared to that of his counterpart at Delta, Gerry Grinstein

The BS by dubya that the economy is not headed for recession or in one, is political posturing. The stimulus pkg is also nothing more than a prayer to keep the numbers skewed until the election is over. It may or may not temporarily work, but we won't know until summer.

Then why aren't people losing jobs at astronomical rates?

NWA pilot's are still negotiating (nothing wrong with that) for the best deal, but at some point in the next few weeks they will have to fish or cut bait. The window of opportunity will close quickly to put this deal together for approval in time for this administration's blessing. Can it get done with a new administration? Absolutely, and probably will if things can't be worked out soon. You can bet the beaurocratic process will seem infinite in comparison. The downside to waiting will be the financial and strategic headstart opportunity that will be missed by not putting the deal together now.

Maybe they need Doug Parker's "smart cookie" sense then!
3 years later and that airline is a disaster, by his own words!

What is it that you do for a living?

"US Airways boasts that its merger has been a success. Still, it has yet to fully integrate the unionized labor groups from the two airlines, and unions demonstrated outside the airline's headquarters on Thursday, alongside a 30-foot rat meant to symbolize US Airways' management.

"Doug Parker has failed to complete this merger," said pilot Tania Bziukiewicz, spokeswoman for the Air Line Pilots Association, America West chapter. "It's still chaos.""

Maybe Doug just hasn't got a clue?

we will see. if dal/nwa merges using the same divide and conquer tactic doug will be hailed as a genius and alpa will be the loser again.

This is the single most intelligent thing I have read in a long time...

Doug giving merger advice, that's funny. What's next, driving tips?

An Anal Cyst?

You better get that looked at!

Actually, I'm the pain in the arz.;) GL has offered his proctology services, but I declined because he is only an assistant.

I luv the way GL plagerizes my originals as his own. I see he is using analcyst in his latest thread. Does the man have no original material or shame? Even that B737 character is stealing my original.....answering within the quote.....and countless others answer in my trademark, blue.

Oh well, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
