DELTA Expands Los Angeles ? San Francisco Bay Area Operation from Sep 2013

by JL
Update at 0820GMT 10JUN13

DELTA in Fall 2013 continues to expand Los Angeles operation, which sees further expansion of Los Angeles ? San Francisco Bay Area operation. Planned increase starting 03SEP13 as follow.

Los Angeles ? San Francisco Overall service increases from 11 to 14 daily, including the return of hourly shuttle service at every hour on top of the hour*. In addition, all 14 daily flights will be operated by DELTA Connection carrier Compass Airlines? Embraer E175 aircraft.

Delta* expands!

*By Delta, we really mean Delta Connection

And it won't help your situation at VA. Obviously 76 seaters are being moved around as the 717s eventually show up. DL really pulled back from the North South flying on the West Coast after the Western purchase, so it is good to see some expansion at LA. It's been a slow build up on that LAX-SFO route since it was restarted, and maybe there could be enough traffic to add 717s someday, but regardless it sure doesn't help VA.....

Using Monday, Sept. 16 as an example:
SFO-LAX
AA: 6 nonstops,all 737-800's. All $99
VA: 8 nonstops, all $99
SW: 11 nonstops, all $99
UA: 15 nonstops, 757,737-700/800/900,A319, all $99
Dal: 14 nonstops, all RJ's $99-$180

E175s will also be a lot more comfortable than CR7/9s and a lot more economical than 737-800s. That said, I really do like the Virgin America product but doubt they can beat Delta's frequency with 14 daily flights. For business travelers, frequency is the key... Smart move by Delta.

Frequency is key, but dumping capacity is not.

Nothing that other airlines do help VA. So no change there. What's with Delta anyway? I hear they want you guys to loosen up scope at NRT/HND? What are you getting in return?

Now THAT is a commuters dream......54 nonstops a day to get you there!

Not much, Dalpa helped the company. Guys are taking notice again, and other options are slowly popping up. Essentially they want to blend the HND slots into the mandatory number of NRT flights.(?) HND only has 2 daily flights anyway, so no biggie, but Dalpa probably could have asked for something. Not a huge uproar, but everyone took notice, again.

Still, looks like all the airlines are targeting your airline. That can't be good.
