Hey General 737 Pylt, I guess those international routes aren't that lucrative after all. Good job trying to spin a $6,100,000,000 loss.

This DAL/NWA thing looks like a match made in heaven for flawed business plans. This is like watching Pan Am and Eastern team up.

What's the odds of Delta NOT being back in Ch 11 by the end of the year? For that matter, what's the odds that Delta will be around in 5 years?

Yeah, that will buy DL/NWA a qtr and a half.

I guess you didn't read the article either. I guess Lubbock papers just report on FDLS Branch dividians.

Bye Bye--General Lee

I rest my case, I'd swear you sit in front of a picture of a Delta Widget and diddle yourself!!!

Thanks Johnny Cochran----go rest your case, and in peace. And, I know you want to think of me doing that, and that is slightly sick. You need to think of something else, really.

So, Delta WASN'T really worth that much when Parker was after them.

Parker was right!
TC

LCC isn't worth as much either. What would the combined carrier have been worth in this environment with no new markets due to the merger and $5B in additional debt?

This 6+ billion dollar loss will help when it comes to tax time. Also of note is that DAL did not take in to account taxes. IE another gain.
What this does is cleans the books for a myriad of reasons. NWA did the same thing. What they doing is making their credit ratings go up, and thus help their ability to raise capital post merger.
It is actually very astute accounting.

But, there will be no layoffs....everything is just fine!!!...signed:Steenland/Anderson...oh yeah, no HUB closures....

CBS 46 news in Atlanta just reported a quote from Anderson that "Delta may have to pass the $6.1B loss on to consumers in the form of 20-30% higher fares".

I think we just found the reason for the creative accounting. This may actually be a good thing for the industry if the fares stick. They definitely need to rise. It's pretty dumb for consumers to pay $3.90 for a gallon of gasoline and $5.00 for a gallon of milk, but still demand $59 fares to Florida!

For that matter, what's the odds that Delta will be around in 5 years?

What are the odds that USAF pilots will stop wearing scarfs, excuse me, ascots, or that they/you will stop playing crud and use a pool table for what it's meant for?

General, what is your fixation with Lubbock? All the wackos are in and around Waco. And Waco is an entirely different part of the state. Lubbock is farming, oil, and football. Remember, Waco= David Koresh, Lubbock=Buddy Holly.

I gotta hand it to you Delta guys. Only you guys can be stupid enough to find any sort of silver lining in this turd cloud.

Good luck passing on 20-30% increases. If you think the Tranny cleans your clock in ATL now, wait till your fares go up 30%.

SWA has got to be watching your struggles and licking their chops. Looks like ATL will be their next market.

I have never been a fan of LBB, but some people might love it. I know the SWA pilots love it, and I think that is FANTASTIC.

Whatever retard. Looks like they still made $6,439,000,000 more than Delta this quarter. LBB must be more lucrative than those international markets that are supposed to save your sinking ship.

Idiots!

Congrats, General!

You have now been promoted to mayor of "damnfoolidiotville!" Congrats!

If you think this is a good accouting trick, maybe you should have had a class or two in accounting at some point. DAL and NWA are doing something very obvious and very dangerous.

Such a huge write-off makes them appear to be in horrific shape. NWA did the same thing. They will approach the governmental review of the merger with the threat of liquidation. They will simply say-"look we both lost a bunch of cash-we just can't make it on our own anymore. Our credit status has been downgraded again and we have no access to credit if we go back into bankruptcy (or "BK" as our esteemed idiot-the General insists on calling it) They will say-"let us merge or we will have no choice but to liquidate."

In effect, they will hold a gun to the government's head and let the politicians know that the blood from a dual-liquidation will be on their hands. Watch how fast the govt guys rubber-stamp that one!

The risk in such a plan is that they may actually enter "BK" before the merger can be approved-in which case, liquidation is a sure bet due to the lack of anyone foolish enough to lend these guys more money.

-BTW-General, you need to read a lot more and kiss butt a lot less. Maybe you would have enough sense to know that all airlines are in a huge world of hurt. We all are going to be in for a big slice of "pain cake." You could well be very fortunate to hold a LBB overnight in a "commuter trash" plane before this is all over with.

Jmoney,

Don't worry about the general, his respnse is gonna sound something like this....

DALPA has stated that we are gonna get a HUGE raise in the near term when our stock goes up to $50. We have a gizzilion 777-300er's on order and the NWA pilots won't get to touch them. They can go fly their POS dc-9's and are lucky we gave them such a good deal. They bring nothing to the table. WE actually didn't lose ANY money, it's just creative accounting. We are gonna be bigger and stronger than any airline in the world.

Wait for it...
