I gotta hand it to you Delta guys. Only you guys can be stupid enough to find any sort of silver lining in this turd cloud.

Good luck passing on 20-30% increases. If you think the Tranny cleans your clock in ATL now, wait till your fares go up 30%.

SWA has got to be watching your struggles and licking their chops. Looks like ATL will be their next market.

General, what is your fixation with Lubbock? All the wackos are in and around Waco. And Waco is an entirely different part of the state. Lubbock is farming, oil, and football. Remember, Waco= David Koresh, Lubbock=Buddy Holly.

I have never been a fan of LBB, but some people might love it. I know the SWA pilots love it, and I think that is FANTASTIC.

Bye Bye--General Lee

Whatever retard. Looks like they still made $6,439,000,000 more than Delta this quarter. LBB must be more lucrative than those international markets that are supposed to save your sinking ship.

Idiots!

Congrats, General!

You have now been promoted to mayor of "damnfoolidiotville!" Congrats!

If you think this is a good accouting trick, maybe you should have had a class or two in accounting at some point. DAL and NWA are doing something very obvious and very dangerous.

Such a huge write-off makes them appear to be in horrific shape. NWA did the same thing. They will approach the governmental review of the merger with the threat of liquidation. They will simply say-"look we both lost a bunch of cash-we just can't make it on our own anymore. Our credit status has been downgraded again and we have no access to credit if we go back into bankruptcy (or "BK" as our esteemed idiot-the General insists on calling it) They will say-"let us merge or we will have no choice but to liquidate."

In effect, they will hold a gun to the government's head and let the politicians know that the blood from a dual-liquidation will be on their hands. Watch how fast the govt guys rubber-stamp that one!

The risk in such a plan is that they may actually enter "BK" before the merger can be approved-in which case, liquidation is a sure bet due to the lack of anyone foolish enough to lend these guys more money.

-BTW-General, you need to read a lot more and kiss butt a lot less. Maybe you would have enough sense to know that all airlines are in a huge world of hurt. We all are going to be in for a big slice of "pain cake." You could well be very fortunate to hold a LBB overnight in a "commuter trash" plane before this is all over with.

Jmoney,

Don't worry about the general, his respnse is gonna sound something like this....

DALPA has stated that we are gonna get a HUGE raise in the near term when our stock goes up to $50. We have a gizzilion 777-300er's on order and the NWA pilots won't get to touch them. They can go fly their POS dc-9's and are lucky we gave them such a good deal. They bring nothing to the table. WE actually didn't lose ANY money, it's just creative accounting. We are gonna be bigger and stronger than any airline in the world.

Wait for it...

Reading this thread is like watching Pauly Shore still try to be funny. This is so bad it hurts. Who cares about LUB and personal attacks. There is a company that positioning itself to the largest carrier in the industry and they just reported a large accounting loss. Between all this crap some readers just want to know what it is an indication of not who the weasels are.

Christ on a Cracker!!! That's Billion...with a B, right?

Wow! It is far worse than I thought.

Wrap your hand around the raw hide and hold on tight. I think it's going to be a bumpy ride.

Good Luck.

Anyone got Doug Steenland's number? I got a few questions.

Good strategy. I remember in the 4th quarter the GL blew off the loss saying it was only "an operating loss."

Well, I hope you guys have another great quarter. maybey you can improve your losses. Say 33%. Your goal should be to post $8 billion in losses. Good luck.

Serious?

You come here to find out serious info? Are you afflicted? This is FlightInfo-That's like saying "I go to Hooters for the food" or maybe "let's just sit down with Iran and talk-maybe we can be drinking buds!"

If you want serious info from interesting, authoritative contributors, go watch CNBC or the McLaughlin group. Come here and you will get personal attacks, flaming, and retarded stuff. What hell do you think this place is?

BTW-here's an obligatory personal attack:

"General Lee is a walking BJ crossed with a reach reach-around." May seem genetically unlikely, but there you have it-in the flesh!

-Thank you for your Support-Come back soon-

Captain Dad, I am sick of your gloating. Re-read the article. The actual loss was $274 million, not BILLION. The rest was a one time charge that was a paper loss only. It is like saying your house you bought for $500,000 is now worth $300,000, and you are taking a right off. After the merger we will have over $7 BILLION in cash. Thanks for caring, and go back to NJA and enjoy yourself. Really.

Bye Bye--General Lee

Delta reports $6.4B loss in first quarter
Wednesday April 23, 7:35 am ET
Delta says it lost $6.4 billion in first quarter on hefty fuel costs, market value decline ATLANTA (AP) -- Delta Air Lines, the nation's third-largest carrier, says its loss widened in the first quarter to a whopping $6.39 billion due to soaring fuel prices and the steep decline in the company's market value. The results badly missed Wall Street expectations, despite a 12 percent increase in sales.
The Atlanta-based company said Wednesday the loss is equivalent to $16.15 a share. That compares with a loss of $130 million that Delta reported in the year-ago January-March quarter, when it was still in bankruptcy.
Excluding special items, primarily a $6.1 billion non-cash charge relating to the decline in Delta's market value due to sustained record fuel prices, the airline lost $274 million, or 69 cents a share, in the first quarter.
Analysts expected a loss of 49 cents a share, excluding one-time items.
