Delta pilots fly thru thunderstorm

That should never be an excuse for why you flew through a thunderstorm. You tell the controller you are using your captains emergency authority and do what you need to do. 20 years ago in my training I was told that controllers are here to serve the pilots. While that might be a stretch, I definitely feel like now they have a "do what we say or we'll violate you" mentality that pilots are so afraid of, and that's not right, and doesn't foster a safe environment.
