Dunno, not sure he's active on APC. All the comments are coming from what he posts on his facebook. Seems he and wifey are quite the tools. Hey maybe he's actually Gen Lee! It would fit.

Dude, go back to Nam! Really, your comedy sucks. That guy is RM, an 88 Captain. Joey Meatballs flies for Spirit. Come on Shaun! Get with the program....

Bye Bye---General Lee

haha you sooo easy Jenny, knew you'd come out of your cave putz

That looked like a weather system that should have been avoided all together by going north or south not picked thru.

If you watch it develop there was a gap which obviously closed as they flew into it. North of the weather may have been a better choice, but I wasn't there. I'm sure the crew didn't expect it to close that quickly.

Having the radar on might have helped also :)

Just saying

"We're declaring an emergency and deviating 30NM Right "R" of course"

They should understand that.

Do some research on what happens in China if you declare an emergency. Indefinite detention during the ensuing gov't investigation are a popular prize.

IPAD provides a good "big picture" look at the weather, enabling you to select the best route for completely avoiding thunderstorms. It's not as good as on-board radar if you must perform short-range navigation around individual cells, because of the time delay inherent in any datalink presentation from remote radar sites.

Accurate statement. We're approved to use Wi-Fi/Weather App and it's a good tool but inside 100NM the radar is better for scanning and getting an idea of tops.

WiFi + Radar is an excellent combo.

So if you have an engine fire and land in China you get put in detention? I find that hard to believe.

No no...you don't know how it is over there!! (sarcasm)

Just what I want....to be aboard a plane where the pilots believe it's either penetrate a storm or go to jail.

By that statement my impression is that the only international flying you have done is Toronto and Cancun.

The China statement is an absolute possibility if you do not have a valid Chinese Visa.

A hail encounter from 17 years ago?

I take it that AirTran Pilot must be still shaggin' your ol' lady, 400Ahole?

He is his old lady!
And whoever shagged his ass did it out of love, I'm sure!

I'd rather have the Toronto guy up front who decides to deviate around a storm than the guy who's convinced he'll get detained in China if he deviates or declares an emergency.

This isn't a EP-3 having a midair and landing in China while out eavesdropping.

If he deviates in China he will not go to jail - if he lands without a Visa he does.

A Captain must use ALL available information available to him before he makes a decision. If the pilot doesn't at least consider the ramifications of his actions he should NOT be in the seat.
