What you experienced, is what I refer to as the 10% Rule. This is the approximate number of A...oles and Captain D'Heads that you will encounter at any given airline. It is truly sad, that these people are not weeded out before the other 90% of us have encounters with them.
At least the odds are in your favor not to experience this very often...

So let me get this straight.....

You had a boner for Delta since you were a little fat kid and so you went to Comair Academy and bought your job because you knew it would be the sure-fire way to become a big, bad Delta pilot. Then, $100k of Mommy & Daddy's money later, you try to J/S and you get your heart broken by one of the people you idolized?

Hmmmmm. Sounds like you just got a healthy dose of reality. Hopefully there will be more of this for you in the future.

By the way, you can jumpseat and sit in the back. Sitting in the back doesn't automatically make it a non-rev. Douche.

a perfect example of the type of person i was referring to in previous post. immaturity shows through big time.

The 10% rule is good advice to someone new in the industry...

Also... remember that jumpseating is a "Professional Courtesy"...

If either word is not honored ... then something is wrong...
Be professional... be courteous....
Both as the guest... and the flight crew...

There are so many things that are bad in this industry...

My feelings are....

Make your jumpseaters feel welcome.... let them have a great experience going to work, coming home or going on their personal trip....

Be gracious to the agents and f/a's too....

The Douglas jumpseats use that old unsnap, reach under, pinch and pull out maneuver....
(not to be confused with advice for female f/a's)

And report the General's buddy to your jumpseat committee chairman...
Date, flight number....

This guy sounds like he lives in base and needs a reality check...

Last time I checked, getting the jumpseat is not anyone's God-Given right, it is a priveledge given by the Captain. Always be professional and polite. ;) :)

I just jumpseated home this morning from Atlanta on Delta. Everyone from the gate agent to the Captain were friendly and I never felt unwelcome

Ouch!

Ouch! I think that is isolated, but there are some guys out there that are disgruntled with Comair and their pilots. I seem like that on this board, but I never speak poorly to any jumpseater, even from Comair. I understand that the jumpseat is not supposed to be used as a weapon. Was this guy on the 777 going to MCO? I saw one last week that was livid that Comair used to deny Delta pilots even a seat in the back. (How? I don't know--but apparently one guy did that) What can I say? I think most DL guys are like that FO you had, not the Captain, but the Captain is incharge. Sorry and I would try it again---I doubt there are that many like that.

I don't see how that's possible. If there is a seat in the back, he's a non rev with an assigned seat. Hmmmm

No, the Captain of one of your RJs DID deny one of our pilots because he said a seat in the back (the only one remaining) was broken. The Comair gate agent even asked if that was possible to the Captain's face, and he said "it is broken, no one will take it." He also denied the jumpseat to him also. That happened a couple years ago, but I guess it is still fresh in some DL Captains' heads.....

We had 2 J/S a couple of years ago from CVG-MSP. One DAL guy one CMR guy. The CA I was with said I'll take the Comair guy but not the DAL guy. I got left behind in ATL once because you guys wouldn't let me on. (assume DAL is a one J/S only carrier?)I immediately piped in with "Are you serious?" Then I told the CA not to take it out on everyone in general. The guy was trying to get home and there were plenty of seats. He buckled and when we got to MSP I apologized to the DAL guy. He responded with the right response "i'm just glad to get home"

But i do catch flak from time to time on NWA when I try to commute home. Ranging from not shaking my hand to the usual, how do I feel about stealing jobs etc. Only time I got flat out denied on NWA was a DC-10 from DTW to MSP and the CA said I'd love to have you on my j/s but this a-hole (pointing to another CA) is giving me a line check today to see if I can still work here. Got a seat in the back anyways.

Yes that did happen about 2 years ago. That Captain got chewed out from other Comair pilots and a chief pilot for that one. The Delta pilots have always been professional and curtious to me when it comes to the jumpseat. I'm always more than happy to return the hospitality.

DL pilots are whiney faggs. I've had this same sh1t happen to me before. One told me, "you're lucky you don't work for Comair, otherwise I'd give you an earful." Then the Cap. asked if we were in negotiaions, and then, "you're not going to get anything." GL, you feign empathy. I think mainline pilots love to rip on connection folks.

I'm sure some do.. and I'm sure the % is close to the connection pilots that rip on mainline.

I talk to mainline guys all the time and only once have I had a problem. At least as an FO, most of the mainline guys realize that I had nothing to do with the pissing match.

I don't want to be on their jumpseat anymore than most want a jumpseater up there.

Was his name Thornton G. Gillins?

We had a few guys denied the J/S by him in the passed. He's a DAL MD88 skipper.

First off, I was a skinny kid, now I am fat.

and so you went to Comair Academy and bought your job because you knew it would be the sure-fire way to become a big, bad Delta pilot.

Yes I did go to the Academy. I started flying in college and did my CFI/CFII at the academy. I instructed there and here I am. And happy to be here. I did it to become a Comair pilot not a Delta pilot. I'll have to check their record but I dont believe that anyone has gone from the academy to Delta. But I'll get back to you on that one.

Clearly you know all about Delta/Comair/ASA j/s policy. We (ASA/Comair) can only j/s if the back is full. So why would I be j/s if there were seats in the back. And as far as signing up earlier, if I do then I dont get assigned a seat in the back until all seats are taken. So all nonrevs would be assigned a seat then me. So John Smith gets first class on a buddy pass while I get stuck in a middle coach seat. Doesn't sound too smart does it.
