All of my friends are getting bumped out of their bases(LAX,SLC) back to Atlanta.

What are the current rumors re: the LAX base? I would assume all the DAL-N folks from the W Coast & Hawaii would be bidding out W. Is the base growing or shrinking?

I think the last brief for the Check Airmen said they would build up LAX before they built up SEA. Probably more Asia flying I would assume. I looked at their current 76ER trips at the base, and they aren't that good, with a mix of domestic and some Hawaii flying. Lots of lowtime 3 day trips there, with nice layovers. I recently did a trip out there that included a couple Hawaii layovers, all after deadheading to LAX to start, and deadheading back to ATL at the end of the trip. It was really nice. I don't know what they will do with the 737-800 out there.

How about hiring somebody to teach Delta how to get jetways to the aircraft in less than 5 minutes? They are always parked about 75' away from the airplane, taking forever to drive up after the plane has stopped. Keep 'em closer like SWA does and save a few minutes of jetway driving time. I flew four legs as a revenue passenger in the last couple of weeks and it always seemed like it took forever. SWA usually does it inside of 45 seconds. They could save 10 minutes a turn if the darn jetway wasn't parked a milliuon miles away! What a production to watch that thing get driven so far every time!

There is no source as nothing has been published yet. This is all speculation and heresay but I bet the 'plans' will be announced pretty soon. I suspect for the December bid we will all know more.

Understand - there may be a net positive for MSP in this bid. Bid should be out within a couple weeks.

SWA only has 1 fleet. Delta's problem is there's a different sized aircraft at the gate every few hours. Every time a different fleet pulls up to the gate, the jetway has to be readjusted thus taking more time.

Bid may be delayed slightly. Nothing too sigificant, but not on the 16th. To DAL guys this is nothing new. The whole when and what of AE's is such a moving target.

MSP will get bigger, NYC may grow as there will be 10,000 block hrs on the 88 in March and beyond if the swap get approved, and ATL will shrink this time around. Even if you get killed on this AE it appears that the Aug 2010 AE will right some of the cuts in ATL.

I am looking at how the ER movement in NYC will be then, the 777 in DTW then the 320 in MSP. We will see how many guys in ATL decide that a commute is better than a 3K a month pay cut.
 
As for the jetways. They are required to be outside of the FAA approved clear zone so the aircraft can taxi in. It is part of our FAA approved procedures.

Would have been nice if they had done the 765 move to NY and the ATL 767 to ER conversion pre-SOC. Now those guys are kind of SOL with their equipment thrown into the big pool.

Yeah, but the problem is some of the guys bumped out of ATL may never get their seats back as NWA pilots migrate south.

Yep, and I am one of them with a house here, but you will never hear me complain about it. Why? We voted for the JPWA and it now is what it is. It serves no purpose.

BTW, never is a long time. I would say 2-3 years for most seats above a 7537.
 
I suspect the worlds most successful airline merger is going to screw a lot of Delta S pilots out of their seats.

IMHO the south pilots would have been better off at a stand alone Delta.
Really. Where would the old DelDa be getting D.I.P. financing about now? You did a lousy job restructuring in Ch-11. Have one of the worst cash/revenue ratio's. NWA had one of the best. The SLI was a wash and DelDa gains every year from now on. Sorry USAir didn't buy you.

Just remember NWA had all that extra money because you gave it away to keep those pensions, that you still have, along with the money again. (Yeah, I know---70 hours min vs 75, double pay over 80, healthcare costs, blah blah) I tend to think we could have gotten dip financing from a lot of sources. Look how United is still around along with USAir.....

Look, we shouldn't fight anymore, but some people are sensitive. When it comes to getting bumped out of a base, people usually take it personally, and it really isn't supposed to be like that. It's called seniority, and things happen. Look at 9-11. That was out of nowhere, and it affected a lot of people at the airlines. Mergers happen too. Deal with it. Overall, we will all do better eventually.
