Funny thread...but seriously....

To each his own. There are many reasons to make the decisions we make. I have to remain at SkyWest for at least the next 4 years because my wife is in residency in SLC...with only 4 days off a month...I can't afford to commute and "waste" a day with her(if our marriage is going to be a good one). Would I like to stay somewhere exotic one every trip and make more money? Is the sky blue? However, OTHER things also contribute to the decisions I make for my career. Thus, I'll address my choice in 4 years...a lot can happen in that 4 years and if SkyWest is still around, I'll have 9 years of seniority. Having been furloughed and having suffered through crappy reserve, I think I will be leaning toward leveraging that 9 years and remaing here. Like I said, it'd be fun to fly bigger planes, with cooler overnights and for more money...but those things don't matter as much to me as good schedules(sooner rather than later), not commuting, and...the big one...not hanging off the end of a seniority list.

Like I said, to each his own.

Yeh, flew a nonstop from Tokyo to DC once-a pretty long boring day. Flew from DC to Honolulu, 1 hour on the ground, then back to DC. Now that's a turn. That kind of stuff used to be fun, and it would be exciting if ya hadn't done it before, but on a scheduled airline, it's gotta get very monotonous. Pay's good, and that 777 looks cool, but it's not too envigorating. Thanks for the answer, and good luck. The lee guy posted about 3 times in a row that he gets 20 hours in 3 days, alot of it sleeping. And he gleed about all the places he's been. A little too much eager. Ya know what they say, act like you've been there before. And the lee guy better be careful, about sayin where he goes-Trevi Fountain has become a hangout for transgender pickups. Not a good situation, no way.

Agreed. I'd rather fly my short 3-leg day with only 9 hours of duty and end up having a few drinks in Daytona Beach. That 16-hour leg crap just ain't for me. But, I'm glad the General is happy doing it. Whatever works for him. It's just not for me.

That is what is great about Delta, you have a choice. You can fly the 16 hour stuff, or do domestic. You can do multiple legs (MD88 stuff), or do one leg day transcons (738 or domestic 757/767), or you can bid 777 and fly to Shanghai. People at Delta who don't want to fly long haul don't have to. Variety is the spice of life, and guys like John Pennecamp will stay at ASA flying the ATR because he lacks the fortitude to actually try something new, while he stays "comfortable" staying in his "zone of tranquility." Kinda sad, actually, BUT SAFE. It's great when you know every ATC frequency ahead of time everywhere you go(NOT REALLY).

Well said. Sometimes QOL and family outweigh the bigger airplane and slightly bigger pay check.

In the modern airline industry the incentive to move on to a legacy carrier is not as great as it once was. The pay, benefits, and QOL disparity as not as great, and it hardly pays to give up 10 years of seniority just to start over. It would take you almost 10 years to get back to where you are and make up the lost money over time. And despite Lee's asinine bragging, very few Delta pilots fly that schedule. Take a look at a 4 day Mad dog pairing (which most of the Delta pilots fly). The trips are the same as the RJ trips... 4+ legs a day and short overnights. All for just a little more money.

Bottom line is this. If your happy with the money, Vactions, QOL etc. seniority at your airline then why should others (GL) be so worried about your job.

We have Captains at PDT making 90k a year (more if and when we get LTP).
They all have 5 Vaction Slots, add that too your sick time and your freaking working 8 months out of the year. No Great, but not bad either.

Out of the first 100 Pilots at PDT only about 10 took the mainline job at US Airways. That should tell you something right there.

So if your happy with the money and QOL then theres no need to leave.

Yes, I stand corrected. I repeated the half baked news story. My apologies. The hiring freeze is management only, not front line employees. Unlike the General, I can admit it when I'm wrong. That doesn't make me any less disappointed with you and your new found Delta Pilot attitude.
