Retired Pilots Still Flying?

I was wondering how many early retired pilots are still flying? If so is there a plan to get everyone in there final seat to avoid additional pilots on the street? Hopefully that was part of the TA agreement.

As of December 31st of this year, there will be 12 left (all under the age of 60), and they will be gone by the end of Feb of 2006. Those 12 have some great importance when it comes to Line Check pilots, I guess.

I hope that there are no furloughs planned in the future. How far back does the current furloughs go? ie. hire date? Are there plans to return them in the near future?
 
there are 475 "official furloughees" dating back to somewhere in late 2000 to early 2001 ish. There is no word of us coming back now or in the near or distant future as they have put all recalls on hold since October. Rumor and I say rumore only is that maybe another 300 but that is just what I read here and on the alpa board.

The first post 9/11 furloughs got hosed out of furlough pay via force majure but the recent NW furloughees are receiving furlough pay now...

TBKANE is correct. The word is that there COULD be up to 300 furloughs by the end of 2007, but that could be mitigated by the people who may leave anyway to get away from Delta. The current lease negotiations have gone well so far supposedly, so that may delay any near term furloughs. The company is currently denying that they plan to furlough anyone right now.

I hear ya. I was in the JS of an MD11 going to MCO (back in 2002) and the other J'seater with me (a fully loaded plane so we were both in the cockpit) was on his last rotation before being furloughed, while the captain was bragging how he was on a 2 day "green slip" rotation. I had nothing to say, I felt bad for the f/o about to be furloughed. However, like we've heard from the union, it is their contractual right.

What do you think about the newhire UPS A-300 F/O that is a Delta 757/767 early retirement captain? Do you think he should have taken the job at UPS or left it for someone younger and give them the chance to work for a major?

Well said, GS have been defended ever since the TBKANE hit the street. alpa sux. It may be in the contract, but it is BS and anyone who green slips with guys on the street are AH, DB and CS.

Last I heard there were a couple of those guys at big brown......goes to show you how greedy these guys really are. 50 something and starting at the bottom making 26K a year. WOW.....

Should he have taken the job at UPS? This kind of pilots will screw anybody that gets in their way of making a few buck..... period. I just wish UPS would have hired some of the very well qualified guys out there trying to make it on their third, fourth or fifth airline. OH well...... its not what you know, but what you know right??????????

Just flew with a guy who has been green slipping like a wild man so he can take the family on a 10 day cruise. Makes me sick as I have good friends and co-workers who have been furloughed for over 4 years. Oh yeah, he also was against cobra for the furloughees. He is now on my no fly list.
 
Gee, all I asked was if there were to be anymore furloughs in the next year. Turns into a pilot bashing forum. Amazing.

Good point? Are you smoking crack? These guys competed with other applicants to get that job. I'm sure they're just trying to get on with a company whose retirement will be around for a long time!

This is a lot different than greenslipping, which DOES HURT FURLOUGHEEs!!! These guys just went out and got another job...at a different company.

Perhaps all the military guys should stay in the military and let these UPS jobs go to those who really 'need' them. What are you a socialist? Or just a selfish-ist.

Get over yourself and realize that just because it doesn't benefit you, it isn't necessarily evil.

your post says it all..... how much retirement do you think you can build up when your in your early to mid 50s???? With an early out these guys got their lump sum of 7 firgures and its still not enough??? And your calling me selfish? Sounds like your dad is a Delta captain ;).

We'll have to start at that pay rate, but Delta didn't offer the "anything over 70 hours is time and a half." So, we may go for the US/AWA E190 payrate which is a tad bit more---12 year Captain at $98/hour. What can you say? We are a bankrupt carrier and the rate has already been benchmarked by Jetblue's management. Soon, most regionals will use that Jetblue 100 seat pay rate to negotiate lower rates with their own labor. (50 seaters may get half of the jetblue 100 seat rate, etc)

And, any future furloughs were supposed to be based on our current lease negotiations, which have gone fairly well, supposedly. But, we still have 475 pilots out on furlough, and I am sure some of them would like to return. The union so far has said anything over 70 seats should be ours, and is a "drop dead issue....." We'll see......
