PCL_128 said:It has nothing to do with proving a point numbnuts. It's about not funding things that you don't believe in. I'm not going to send a donation to Planned Parenthood because I think abortion is disgusting, so do you really think I would purchase the product of a company that donates to Planned Parenthood when I know that it's the profits from my purchase that are being donated? This isn't about being a "tough guy." This is simply about not supporting a cause that you don't believe in. Companies should stick to business and not social activism.

You make no sense. Who ever heard of advertising that you try to keep as quiet as possible?
Do you figure some of Comair's concession money went to this program?
Mmmmmm Burritos said:Why does that not make sense?
Check out these blurbs I found on google after 5 min of looking:
AIRTRAN:
(Atlanta, Georgia) Singer Elton John's face is adorning 20 AirTran jets.
The move is designed to promote AirTran's launch of satellite radio at each passenger seat.
Orlando, Fla.-based AirTran uses Atlanta as a hub and is one of the few airlines making a profit.
The airline has contracted with XM Satellite Radio systems to offer more than 100 channels.

You answered your own question. AirTran promotes service (XM Radio) and makes a profit. Delta promotes a book called "Secrets of a Gay Marine Porn Star" and loses Billions.

dixieflyer said:"Diversity is a key component of what makes Delta great. We strive to enrich and empower the lives of all of our employees and customers in the hopes that they will each realize their greatest potential."
What about those employees who feel homosexuality is wrong and prefer not to have it in their face when they come to work?. I suppose they dont have a place at the table when it comes to promoting "diversity."
Mmmmmm Burritos said:There are bigger problems in this world to conquer than this. Suck it up and move on people.
Mmmmmm Burritos said:HMMMM Doesn't seem to be JUST Delta now does it? Hey guess what else I found, BUD LIGHT was sponsering the same gay pride event as Delta. Better not drink beer anymore!
How about this...sexual orientation doesn't belong in this industry PERIOD. Why is it that people feel the need to go around flaunting their sexuality, race, or other diversities in an environment where it is completely irrelevant and inappropriate? Sexuality, regardless of whether it is straight or gay, has its place...and that place is not at work, nor is it on a commercial airliner. They abuse their rights and freedoms by forcing who they are in the faces of those of us who don't really care or want to know. The only reason they get away with it is our increasingly liberal society that points fingers and yells "discrimination" the second someone disagrees with them and because of companies who use these "diversities" as a marketing scheme to try to make money.captjorge74 said:I do agree that everyone has a right to an opinion, but making a rude remarks about any race or sexual orientation doesnt belong in the airline industry and it defintley doesnt belong on this thread.
captjorge74 said:As a professional pilot, I am greatly dissapointed with most of the comments made on this thread. Supporting the gay and pride event is to attract potential customers gay or straight. The gay and pride events is just not for gays and lesbians, they welcome anyone who is willing to show their support. Delta and many other major airlines show their supports too. I do agree that everyone has a right to an opinion, but making a rude remarks about any race or sexual orientation doesnt belong in the airline industry and it defintley doesnt belong on this thread. So what if Delta sponsors the gay and pride events? Delta also sponsors the Atlanta Opera and other events that takes place in Atlanta and other major cities Delta flies too. Does that mean Delta should not sponsor any of this events??? I think most of you with that mentality should really keep your opinions to yourself. If you really have a problem with demographics, then you are in the wrong business. So go ahead and trash talk me all you want. At least I have dignity and pride to show my support for Delta to attract all types of customers.
We are not writing about discriminating, we are talking about promoting. And of all the causes Delta has to promote, this is the best use of their money?Mmmmmm Burritos said:Sorry, talk to your lawmakers about that. Employers cannot discriminate on the basis of sex, ethinicity or sexual orientation because it is a law. And I suppose the above statement is a byproduct of that law too.

If some folks at Delta want to promote anal sex and pedophilia, why can't they collect their own money, like we have to do for the March of Dimes and United Way?
There is no way you can say with a straight face that promoting a book tour for the author of "Secrets of a Gay Marine Porn Star" is a more worthy cause than the March of Dimes.
You can read, so surely you have read, that Delta is headed for bankruptcy and is so far in debt that reorganization financing may not be available. Delta is #2, or #3, on the list of major airlines most likely to cease operatations. No, I'm not getting over it and if you were willing to take concessions to promote your job, you should also be concerned about Delta's future - if Delta is not around you can bet both cheeks on your festive butt that Comair will not be around either.
Well everyone is the Delta family is taking some sort of concessions. At ASA we have had a 3.5 year pay freeze and our contract is under constant attack.Mmmmmm Burritos said:And who says I work for Comair?![]()

And if you think they're idiots not capable of running an airline maybe you're the one who needs an education. Fostering support and a presence with a segment of the market that controls such a large amount of disposable income is VERY good
business.
Ty Webb said:You know, I have to laugh . . . . someone questions the appropriateness of Delta spending money to support a Gay Pride event, and of course, the PC police and the Diversity Nazis come out of the woodwork, claiming that somehow they are being "discriminated against" because their "cause" is being questioned.
I think some of you need to learn the difference between being "discriminated against" and simply "disagreed with", because just because someone doesn't agree with your lifestyle doesn't mean they are discriminating against you.
How's about leaving your love life at home? What's wrong with that? Geez, what a concept.

When the low cost carrier has higher customer satisfaction in the high cost carrier's largest O&D city - your airline is in serious trouble regardless of what fuel costs in the spot market.
