I'm not a fan of a no furlough clause because we've seen how they worked in the past. I do think that the best deal for all pilots at all airlines would be to see 70+ seat jets flown by mainline pilots. That is the best furlough protection at this point in the game. If that means taking some E170/175's away from the RAH and Compass pilots, then we should take the pilots with the airplanes. In the long run everyone will have a better career if these jets are flown by mainline pilots.

ATLANTA -- One thorny issue for Delta Air Lines in its talks with United Airlines and Northwest Airlines about joining forces is where the merged company would be based and what it would be called.Sign Up For e-mail Breaking News Alerts
FLIGHT DELAYS: Is Your Flight On Time?
Delta executives in recent months have spoken in near absolute terms about their desire and intention of keeping the Delta name and the headquarters in Atlanta. But aviation experts say such certainties are hard to achieve in complex merger negotiations that often involve competing interests. Delta spokeswoman Betsy Talton reiterated today that Delta's board is analyzing strategic options, including potential consolidation transactions. But she declined to provide any update on the process or address the name and headquarters location issues. Representative Lynn Westmoreland said his office has told Delta officials of its concern about the course of the merger discussions and in particular the issue of possibly moving the headquarters and changing the company name. He said he has seen recent news reports discussing various merger scenarios involving the three airlines. Northwest officials are likely just as eager to see any combination they are involved in keep the Northwest name and the company based in Minnesota, as United officials would likely want to keep the United name and keep its parent company based in Chicago.

Heyas,

FWIW, both NWA and DAL have been down this EXACT road before in 86. They were in the exact same spot: "formal announcement imminent", and the whole deal fell apart literally overnight over the name of the company and who would run it.

Weeks later, NWA bought Republic and DAL Western, both of which were totally off the radar.
