Michael,

What is it about the 88 that you like? Why do you recommend taking it if it's available?

Thanks,

You will hold the best schedule the quickest as a newhire and its a better fit for a newhire vs the ER, you will get alot more landings on the M88. The ER you might have to go back to the Sim to do landings to stay current.

You will have plenty of time to fly the ER or anything else. I had a choice of the ER or M88 and took the M88. I wouldn't sweat it, either way you are here.

not to go of topic sorry but the new hire dinner, i take it you can only bring a spouse, not a fiancee? Sorry to go off topic

Fiance's are fine.

You can take a "significant other," but if she is not your fiance you have to pop the question at the dinner while everyone sings "You've Lost That Loving Feeling."

Does Delta give FO's type ratings? I heard all but the 88..
Is the fisrt class medical required for FO's (every 6 months)?

Just got a peek at the results. NYC M88 CA 7/24/00. About 690 more numbers until it hits 2007 hires. Looks like they have unfilled positions in NYC, SLC, LAX, and ATL. For the west coast fellas, 15 unfilled positions on the 767 in LAX, 18 unfilled positions on the 90 in SLC, 3 unfilled positions on the 73N and 767 in SLC, and 1 unfilled position on the ER in LAX. Looks like newhires will be going west. Didn't look at the numbers in ATL or NYC yet, but I'll bet they have lots of unfilled positions. 777 FO in ATL went to a 2000 hire.

Just curious---what doh/seniority does the junior most wide-body captain have at Delta?

Michael,

What I like best is I can hold a decent schedule as a captain.

I enjoy the airplane though. The cockpit is roomier and quieter than the 73N. I have jumpseated in the 73N and can't imagine being crammed in there for a transcon flight. It's different than the Boeings, no doubt, but once you figure it out it's fun to fly.

I think for a newhire you will get some seniority on the 88 the quickest, which means better schedules, holidays off and more money. The extra pay on the 767 or 7ER won't make up for the fact that you can most likely get more flying on the 88 if you want it.

Best part of the 88 is you could fly with me! :)

this last AE that closed, when do folks start training for what they were awarded. I have heard they have till 6 months but what basis do people start training for the new airplane they were awarded. Also, for example say I was on the 88 in NYC. Do you have to wait for an AE to bid for another base same plane or do you do the base change bid some other way.

training happens in seniority order. Usually a week or so after the bid closes the projected training dates come out. The senior most people who were awarded something usually start very quickly, the rest may happen at the end of the conversion period.

Yes, to change base on the same aircraft, you have to wait for an AE.

is there a list of what bases and or airplanes are going to be offered to classes in the near future or is that something you get when you get there..

There is no such list. Crew Resources looks at what is needed at the time of the new hire class and makes the assignments based upon that. A lot goes in to it. IE when people are leaving given fleets and seats vs class start date. It will vary with each class and when they feel they need staffing levels on a given seat.
