That makes sense Michael. Thanks for the explanation.

I'm in the December 3rd class and hear it will likely be all 7ER to JFK. I think that will be great but I live in California now and it will probably take a while to sell the house and move. If there is another AE in Jan or Feb and I get awarded a 767 in LAX how long would it be until I'm domiciled in LA? How long does it take for a change to take effect? Is there any way to know that now or would I just have to wait and see?

The LAX 7ER was not even filled on the last bid, and they will mostly do Hawaii from LA and SLC. The DOM category was short too I believe. It would be great if you got the 7ER in NYC and then bid over to LA after you did a few INTL trips from NYC--and no extra training required. That is a good thing. Just relax and do a commute for a few months. The bid in FEB will get you to where you want to be most likely.

Bye Bye--General Lee

Meiguy, I do plan to commute for awhile. We don't want to stay in California, especially not the LA area and are ready to leave but with the slow housing market it will take time to sell.

Cvg

I know CVG is very senior, but would it be quicker to hold it in the M88 or 73N, now that the 73N is a new category?

when they have choices for new hires to choose from, is it just random, or is it based on immediate need.. just asking casue it seems like talk is there are tons of opening accross the board.. just curious what dec 3 will have offered if it will be like the 12 nov class and what jan 8 will have

When one gets awarded a new base on an AE that has an effective date of say June 08; How long does it usually take to get advanced to the new base. Does it depend on need or is June the earliest one would be advanced. Could you be advanced any month from the award date to effective date. Also, If it's not simply June for the advancement, do you bid on specific months to be advanced.

thanks

When an AE is posted, it has a conversion period posted with it. Being converted is when you actually show up in the new category.

For the AE that just closed, I think the conversion period was Dec-June. So, you could be converted anytime during that period, but you have to be converted by June.

So is it up to the company to convert you or is it seniority based bidding process over that time frame. It's more a when we need you there you will get there kind of thing.

Generally it is seniority based. If a junior pilot is converted prior to a senior pilot, the senior pilot is pay protected for his new category.

quick quiestion, there are some folks who think that the next few class's will be all 88 to NYC vs some folks that think it will be all 7ER to NYC. Are these just edjucated guess's or is there something behind it.

Most likely due to the fact that these went unfilled.

737

so do they just offer 50% 88 NYC and 50% 7ER to NYC or do they do all of one category one class and all of the other category the next. just wondering if there will be options. I heard the Nov 12 class had only 1 type for everyone..

it will depend on a couple of things. First, which category needs the pilots quicker. The 88, for example, may be project to be short in June ( the end of the conversion period for the last bid) but right now may be staffed fine. Second, training capacity. If the 88 or 767 program cannot handle an entire class, then they would likely offer a mix based on that training capacity.

thanks michael.. i was just trying to do a little pre-planning and looking at different bases to see which would be the best and easiest for my family.

I understand. The best I can tell you is that you won't know until you show up. Keep in mind, the next AE is supposed to be in Feb, so if you are not happy with what you get, you can bid off very soon. I say take the 88 if you can........but I am biased;)
